Is it silly to come up with New Year's Resolutions? Somehow last year the only resolutions I completed were to get the car fixed (which happened in october-ish) and to tile the lanai (which happened mid-summer-ish). All of the rest of them fell off the board, probably because I didn't have any real drive to do them. In fact, the ones I did complete I didn't even know were on my list until I happened to find last year's list tucked away as a note on my iPod. So of course I have a new list this year, but I'm attempting a different approach. Supposedly it takes about 6 weeks to change a bad habit into a good one, so I am working on one thing at a time, rather than overwhelming myself with everything at once.
To begin I did my once every few months apartment cleaning. This time around, we got rid of all of the empty boxes for things with now expired warranties. Well, we are in the process... they're all sitting by the front door. Hopefully all the cardboard will be gone by the end of the weekend ;)
I haven't decided what should be next on my list yet though. Trying to cook more often is a little on the over the top side, but I know it will need to be done, especially if I ever want to accomplish eating more vegetables. These 2 things also coincide with trying to shift my work day from 8:30-5:30 to 7:00-4:00. The general idea is that if i get home earlier, i can take a short break and then start cooking. The downside is, if i mess it up, i may just take a nap and skip cooking and eating dinner all together. In the perfect world I would have my meals planned for the week and have already done the grocery shopping for all of them, and I would just have to do some veggie chopping and stick chicken or pork chops in the oven. and maybe start some rice in the rice cooker. Considering veggies take only a few minutes, I could take a break or maybe try some Wii Fit while things are cooking. But, like I said, this would be a perfect world, and I'm not expecting such results for more than 2-3 days at a time before giving up and trying again a couple weeks later.
So, in the name of only tackling one thing at a time, I'll shoot for taking out the recycling and cleaning out the fridge, and possibly a trip to the grocery store this weekend.
Unfortunately, work is going to throw everything off besides that for an unknown period of time, because I have to leave the house at 5 every morning to drive to the other side of the island for some crazy sampling. I think we have to collect ~60 30-increment soil samples and ~16 100-increment samples, so who knows how long it will take to complete. Especially considering the sampling is on an active golf course... so we get a break from about 9 in the morning to 1:30 in the afternoon, but its really pointless to drive back to town for the break. we'll see!
