Wrestling was pretty awesome last Sunday. Bonus - Landis and I stayed in the Radisson next door to the arena so we got to drink and the hotel was almost deserted so we got the whole pool and hot tub to ourselves ( Read more... )

Kidd will never get heel heat from me for talking about his cats, but I really like the work he's been doing leading into and out of the last Takeover special.

NXT is just so much fun; it's become my most reliable happy-place. I love the slate of goofball tag-teams and the women being (and being treated by the show as) serious competitors. I love that the lucha wrestlers get to do some of their talking spots in Spanish and that Kenta got to reveal the "Hideo Itaml" persona in Japanese first (without even the heel announcers bitching about how we talk English in 'Murica, no less!). Sami Zayn's existence, basically, just makes me really happy, but one of the things I love is that he gets to acknowledge and celebrate the Syrian part of his heritage without having to play a sheik or a terorist or whatever. And since they mostly only have an hour, there's hardly any repetitive filler. Basically, it has all the things I love best about the wrestling (athleticism, pageantry, OTT characters) with hardly any of the stuff that makes me cringe and/or fast-forward through big chunks of the main roster programming.

Baron Corbin's ink is so beautiful; I just want to look at it all day. I'm a little sad they've added that vest to his ring gear. That finisher is so sick, but I am definitely ready to see if he can work a full match leading into it. Have you seen his gloriously SRS BZNS cheese-covered promo?

I haven't watched (the Dean good parts of) last night's Raw yet, but I gather that one of the things I need to see are the additional Wyatt promos.

Maybe it's a game or a bet; if he can make it through the entire public appearance without straightening himself up, then he gets to name his reward. He plays to win, and mostly takes his prizes in the form of things he thinks Dean would a) enjoy and b) never ask for for himself. Sometimes it's different kinds of sex than they've more regularly had, but just as often he peppers in things that are cozy or intimate without being necessarily sexual. And now he tortures himself with those memories every time he slicks his hair back for an Authority suit promo.

It's so weird to watch him heeling it up, because I'm simultaneously being all "Ugh, Seth! *saddest face* How could you! They still love you!" AND "Listen to how much the crowd hates you; good job, sweetheart!"

I'm familiar with Sami and Kenta from the indies so I do like them. And your right the women's division overall is better in NXT. The Ascension is blah and that "hype" guy makes me cringe. I'm looking forward to Kevin Steen debuting. That's cool they don't stereotype as much in NXT. I hadn't really thought about it.

I think I've watched all of Baron's stuff. Sometimes he's the only part of NXT I watch.

I only recommend the Dean parts from Raw unless you're a Rock fan too. Dean looked completely lost on the Subway. The Wyatt promos were good too, but they really need to be back on RAW asap. That Roman interview was pointless and short. I was surprised they didn't have Roman say more or interact with any other wrestlers.

That's a great idea for a fic!

Yeah, the parts-of-Raw/SD-I-frequently-skip can have the Ascension just as soon as they've finished putting Hideo Itami over as our lord and savior of kick, but The Realest Guys in the Room amuse me, and I could watch Lucha Dragons bounce around all day, and - though I can't imagine how that gimmick would ever work on the main roster - I am all over the Vaudevillains!

I've only seen some youtube clips of Steen - I kinda hope he's allowed to keep doing his package piledriver! - but I love his look. Devitt should be on-air soon, too!

I think I died a little when Dean stopped to open the umbrella on the hotdog cart. ♥

I watched some wrestling with my dad as a kid... and then pretty much missed ~20 years. So, while I actually kind of adore Dwayne Johnson, I don't really know the Rock (and suspect I'll be happier keeping it that way).

Yeah, I'm glad he's up and around and looking dreamy in his soft hoodie, but I think they missed a chance to do some character/story work; what if they'd put Roman on the 'Tron and had the chance to stop and chat with him be the only thing that slows Dean on his way Coney Island, or had him and Seth taunt each other about NoC, or had HHH & Steph being all faux-solicitous about his ~fragile health?
