A visual tour.

Most of you know, I attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Downtown Los Angeles. The campus is private, though, so not many people have seen the inside of its buildings other than on The Hills. The Los Angeles campus is on the edge of downtown a couple of blocks from both the Staples and Convention Centers; consists of a 5 story building next to Grace Hope Park, the Loft in the fashion district and the Annex across the street.

I took a couple of pictures last Monday during finals and wanted to show you my school. These are all of the Annex, though, which is in this old building that dates back to 1926: The Standard Oil Building. We occupy three floors and a lot of sewing, patterndrafting and sketching classes, as well as our Design Studio West & East (which is the computer lab/work rooms for students), occupy this space. It's probably my favorite part of FIDM, since it's newer and really well designed and fun to work in.

When I go back to school on October 5th, I'll take more pictures of the main campus and everything! For now, here's part one of the FIDM tour. Enjoy!

The third floor corridor. Check out the cool bucket chairs - which are, in fact, incredibly comfortable - as well as the awesome green carpet. The hollow in the ceiling isn't a skylight, but an interesting light fixture.

FIDM likes green, what can I say? This one reminds me of indilime and her MP3 player.

The lounge area. Those beanbags are super comfy, but those angular monstrosities in the background are not.

One of the pattern/draping class rooms. The circular purple wall-motif is one of my favorites. Also: dress forms! Woo!

I really like the blue glass.

A person! I know the campus looks pretty deserted right now because I took this during lunch and most everyone was either in the computer lab, feverishly trying to print out stuff for finals, on the main campus, or sewing in the main room (which I have no pictures of.)

Did I mention these beanbags are comfortable? Cause they are.

Nifty lecture hall.

The third-floor corridor from the other angle.

One of my favorite places to relax is the computer lab. I'm taking this picture from the 'pool', which is a big padded area you can sit, nap or work in, which looks like, well, a pool. Around the deck are 'lounge chairs' with laptop computers attached; the lounge chairs, despite looking otherwise, are actually really nice to work in. Check out the dude in the pool who's plugged his own laptop in and is working on stuff. Oh yes, also, that's a FIDM tote bag that's standard issue during orientation.

The 'pool' has palm trees.

Second floor view.

The second floor of the computer lab has a sketching room with drafting tables, work tables and other lounge stuff.

Those couch things look like they'd be nice to sit in.

I fucking love that blue glass.

Yep! Blue glass.

People dilligently working...

Another view of the back of the computer lab and the 'pool'.

When does school start again?
