I got some great music this month.
The Busy Signals, are an awesome, awesome band. Shades of The Minds, The Triggers and a hint of The Epoxies. Fast, catchy and fun.
The Vibrators fet. Wayne Kramer - Sonic Reducer. For those of you who might not know, Wayne Kramer is the guitarist from the MC5 ("Kick out the jams, motherfuckas!"), they helped create punk, started a riot, and allegedly bombed a CIA office in Detroit. This is amazing pre-punk rock and roll that was released just last year. Great stuff.
The Nice Boys. Hmm. I remember taking a trip in 2004 to Seattle to visit Elias and see The Briefs for the first time and The Nice boys opened. It features Terry Six, the surviving member of The Exploding Hearts (and I know it's kinda cool to hate this band now, but fuck you, okay? they were fucking brilliant). And I was... disappointed. Thoroughly. It was slow, boring and felt uninspired. Their self-titled album is definitely worth a listen, it has some of the same innocence from The Hearts, but it evokes the feeling of depression I had after seeing them live.
I also got "Fix My Head" by the Marked Men, but I haven't listened to it enough to decide if I like it or not. Maybe next time?
OH, and I figured since I'm hellanerdy already I bought a couple graphic novels. Watchmen and the first two books of Walking Dead. Watchmen is from before I was born and from what I hear it is the reason comics still exist today, and I can see why. It's premise is: what if super heroes existed in WWII, and got as fucked up as the country did after it? Substance abuse, lunacy, crazy shit overall. It's a great story.
Walking Dead is more current (like, right now current) and is a serial drama set in a modern zombie apocalypse. Fuck. Yes.
