In no particular order:
- Deploying to a new job, 2 days after returning from Pennsic, gurantees wierdness. No time to decompress back into the mundane world.
- New company is *absolutely fantastic.* At the risk of sounding egotisical, I blew their socks off when they asked me to assist in writing a package the were submitting. Enough that the company Prez took me to lunch and asked if I could stay longer than originally projected.
- The down side (the only down side) is that I got myself one, solid, crazy-busy-good week of work. From here on out it's catch as catch can, as they're waiting to see if the AF will award them a contract they're angling for. We should hear around March of next year. Until then I'm "part-time/on-call" which is business speak for still essentially unemployed. Going to have to work this carefully, they're too good to not stick with.
- Had a ring-side seat for the earthquake. Never been through one that strong (only been through one small one)...strange sensation. Oddly enough I wasn't really afraid, 'cause there wasn't a damn thing I could about it.
- The "post Pennsic punishment" phase of karma has kicked in. Well-pump and pressure tank at house badly need to be replaced. Still functional, but it's a coin toss on their life expentantcy. The washer went tango uniform two days prior to departure for Pennsic. It cannot be resurrected. Two days ago, the water heater began acting badly. It will have to replaced in the near term as well.
- Add suspended cell phone service as well...back bills and all. Happily, they'll sit on it until the paycheck from my recent labors comes through (more than enough to catch things up). 'Course not having a phone is simultaneously disconcerting and very liberating.
- Did I mention I'm still not working full time? (Or even part-time at the moment.)
- Finally watched Sucker Punch. I liked it. Can't tell you why. (Disregarding the immediate "Id" response...beautiful women, especially an Asian one, MOST especially an Asian one, with weapons is, uhm..my "weak spot.") But I did, and I think there's a lot going in it that got overlooked because of the "hot chicks with guns" motif.
- Lawn at the house has not been mowed for a while. When you need a machete to prep it, it's interesting.
That's enough for now.
Carry on.
