It's been written (if you'll forgive both the bad paraphrase and the repetition) that veterans are folks who, at some point in their lives, wrote their country a "blank check" for their lives.

Although you may not like that the meter or rhythm is all wrong (your words, not mine, I thought it was fine :) ), the heart is in it, and, ultimately, that is what matters. I loved the poem for what its worth, and I also send up my prayers to those who have laid down their lives for people such as I who can enjoy this weekend feeling safe in the knowledge that I do enjoy freedom thanks to all the men and women who put their lives on the line, and say a prayer to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep freedom alive.

Memorial Day is not just another holiday designed to give the working class a chance for a day off. It was created commemorate all the men and women who, throughout our history, have given up their lives to keep freedom alive in this country. For that, this is a special day for me, as I have friends in the military, as well as those who had served, and to all of them, I thank you, I salute you, and I offer you my humble gratitude. Thank you Mike for this poem commemorating all those who have served, are serving, and have made the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf.
