So, for those that haven't heard, David Beckham
signed with the LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer today.
This is huge news for the league, including the newest team
Toronto FC.
Apparently, 1000 seasons tickets were sold in LA in a few hours, and 500 were sold today in Toronto (who will play a match against LA at home after Beckham transfers from Real Madrid in August).
I'm really glad that
I already bought seasons tickets. Although I already have 2 seats for the season, and the 2 I had on hold were snapped up between a couple friends, with this news I expect there might be renewed interest in the team among friends and I'd be willing to split on another seat if one's available next to us. Toronto FC is playing this smart and have announced that there will be no individual tickets sold for the Galaxy match, only seasons tickets and multi-game ticket packets (on sale in Feburary) will sold for that game. Hopefully this will maximize building support and new fans for the team and discourage scalpers who only want to cash in on the Beckham factor.
With the four of us I'm thinking it would be fun to organize a supporters club for left-wing TFC fans, complete with a name, logo, T-shirts, and banners for the matches. But what would we call ourselves? The "Ultra" Lefts? The "Red Squad"? (Team colours are Red for home, Grey for away), The Red Flag Boys? (a dig at the militaristic
"Red Patch Boys"). I don't know!
I'm also starting to get to know folks in the
U-Sector supporters club (we're going to their next meeting / pub night and I'm trying to book a space for U-Sector banner making) and hope we can have a good relationship with them this season.
But really, this post is an excuse to show off the rough view of the field from the section I'll be sitting in (our seats our just below where the people in the photos are).
