vacation
sorry, so I've been a bum and not posted anything in a long while (not that there has been a huge outcry from the masses of adoring fans out in cyberland)...
but we're back safely stateside:
I had surprised CWitW a while back with tickets for vacation to someplace warm with sand & water (a combined christmas/valentines/ day/birthday present) - dirt cheap flights via American Airlines to Belize.
After a bit of research we settled on the 'low-key' option: a bungalow near a beach and with little itinerary past arrive and bring bathing suits and books. I know we missed out on lots of exciting options: no Mayan ruins or Barrier reef exploration or jungle adventures (at least this time)
Instead we found a small island that was a 45 minute water taxi ride from Belize City, and an inexpensive little bungalow on the island that was a few minutes walk to the water... there were very few 'commercial' buildings and mostly small mom & pop run operations: a few 'hotels' and 'hostels', no huge wide picturesque white sands beaches, but rather a very pretty one that was small but plenty big enough to share with the 50-70 sun-seekers on the busiest day.
the end results was precisely what we needed: a wonderful relaxing five days with out any schedule (we actually locked up our only watch) and got up when we wanted, ate when we were hungry and slept when we were tired (usually including a mid-day nap and asleep soon after the sun went down) and I read three books (probably more than I've read at 'one time' since I graduated college....)
