yesh! we all loves the fishies...

a while back I recall a British website for Seafood that was better to buy.  It had a very good listing of the all the different fish species, indicating which were the least detrimental impact on the environment (bycatches, bottom trawling, intensive fish-farming, etc.) and which should be avoided as the species was in danger of extinction from overfishing.  At the time recall that I was suitably impressed, but disappointed that I was unable to find an American counterpart...

today I recalled the recent news reports on mercury levels in fish (I can't imagine that it was really new news) and which should be avoided.  So I went searching for some information on it and came across some very good interesting sites:
The Monterey Bay Aquarium (which I had the pleasure of visiting a few moons back, wow what a fantastic place!) has a Seafood Watch Program (similar to the British one I found years back).
they have a very informative website with idea on consumer action and how to help to educate the public. The website even has a fish species database that helps you determine which ones are best and from what source is the most environmentally sensitive

they even have very handy printable pocket guides (one for each region in the US, plus a guide on seafood used in sushi):

so visit, research, print, and then go and enjoy yourself some yummy, healthy, sustainably caught seafood!

bon appetite!
