Finished a couple of books in the last few books.
First, I read Liquor by Poppy Z Brite for my newly reformed book club.
I had kind of mixed feelings about this one.
It is by a local writer and I can't say it was too well written.
It also was rather full of little references to New Orleans places and cultures
which got to be a bit much at times.
Sort of like she was name dropping.
There was even a French Quarter restaurant called "Tequila Town"
which was owned by a famous singer with a song by that name.
(nudge, nudge, wink, wink)
But I did find myself enjoying it because I did get the references.
But I don't think I'd recommend it.
And I just finished At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon.
I think the closest word for this book was quaint.
It is the first in a series
and my granny passed them on to me last Thanksgiving.
I felt toward this book as my mother describes feeling
toward Jane Austen books.
Sort of caught up in another time and another world.
Even though these books take place in the current time
it seems hard to believe anyone really lives like this.
But maybe somewhere they do.
Anyway, it was a pleasant read and I have started the next book in the series.
