first two days of Jazz Fest

Apr 24, 2010 20:29

Friday was a bit frustrating.
We found out that not only can you not buy kids' tickets ahead of time
but you have to present your child at the ticket counter
in order to buy kids' tickets because they are worried that
grown people will sneak in on kids' tickets.
Of course, then you still have to go wait in line to get in
after you've bought your tickets.

Later Isaiah got in a bunch of red ants.
Poor thing.
He handled it well.

About midday it began pouring rain and continued so for many hours.
After about three hours of that we decided to pack it in.
I was a little worried that Isaiah, who had finally decided
to go puddle hopping, was going to get hypothermia.

Zeke had been picked up from school by Terenia.
I, unfortunately, had forgotten that on Fridays they get out an hour early.
So Terenia showed up at the time I told her
and was an hour late.
All was well. They had just sent him to late pick up.

We were supposed to go to Jenni's after to play games
but Isaiah fell asleep on the couch a little before 7 p.m.
so we put him in bed and ate nachos.
When I put Zeke to bed later I discovered Isaiah asleep
on the floor beside his bed.

By the way, when we I read to Zeke I said "I love you"
and he replied "And you thought I'd lost track of that fact for what reason?"
Apparently I mostly tell him I love him after I've punished him....

This morning there were severe storm warnings in Tangipahoa
and St Tammany parishes with predictions of hail the size of quarters.
It was supposed to rain here as well and we weren't sure we were up to it
but it rained a bit in the morning and then let up
shortly before the fest was starting and I just decided "Why not?"
Great decision. It was a gorgeous day, but a bit windy.
No rain to speak of.
When we entered David asked if I wanted to make my usual sprint to the oak tree
to secure a spot. I decided not to which was fine
because there was only one person sitting by the tree when we arrived.
It was seriously empty by the Gentilly stage all day.
Either everyone was scared off by the weather
or they were all setting up at the other side of the fest for Simon and Garfunkel.

When we first got there it was very difficult putting our blanket down by the tree
because the wind was so hard the second you'd set the blanket down it would blow away.
Managed to pin it under supplies and settle in.
Listened to Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes
and then brought the kids to the Kids' Tent for Johnnette Downing.
(When my children outgrow Johnette Downing I will have to borrow one.)
Caught some of Papa Grows Funk and Better than Ezra back by my tree.
(Yes, it is my tree. Everyone who knows me knows if you're looking for me at Jazz Fest
I'll be either at the tree or I'll have left momentarily to go to the Kids' Tent.
My stuff will be there. Have a seat and make yourself at home.)
Ended the day by travelling to Accura Stage to see some of Simon and Grafunkel
and then the last half of the New Orleans Bingo! Show.
(If you've never seen the New Orleans Bingo! Show you should catch them sometime. They're great.)

During Simon and Grafunkel Zeke made a mud pyramid at the track.
Isaiah had fallen asleep in his stroller and took a brief nap.

We bought some barbecue from a street vendor on the way to the car
and are now home and exhausted but looking forward to more festing tomorrow.

isaiah, zeke
