I had been hermitting. (But could anyone even tell?)
Now, Friday the 13th has come & gone.
As has (that reads funnily) the MCAT computer-based exam.
Talk about external circumstances out of my control. Thanks a lot, opera-voice man!
Well, I know of one External Source of all circumstances, so I know I'll be more than okay in His hands.
It seems I can never take anything lightly anymore.
I am forced to weigh every decision & day-to-day plan with sensitivity and awareness of others. As a leader, in this manner, I have yet to work on. And now I may be forced to admit that I can't take on the responsibility of offering rides anymore. I never realized before now how much risk and responsibility a driver takes on when s/he offers to drive several different people home -- not only the money/insurance, but also the safety & lives of others. I think people take the giving & receiving of rides for granted most of the time.
And although I hate admitting my own faults & the things about myself that I need to work on, I will always be grateful for my dad's level head, leadership, problem-solving skills & common sense.
The other spectrum of my life these days includes the teens that I work with at Community Living Mississauga. I love working with them. Most of the time. There are the occasional incidents & accidents. Some of them are such sweethearts, others are such jokers. This experience is enriching in that I've never noticed how truly unique every person is, whether or not they have an intellectual disability, and to learn to be sensitive with my language, and also, to appreciate the social freedom in Canada that allows these programs to be run in the first place.
Funny that I had told the Europe short-term missions team during our debrief that I wanted to be placed in an uncomfortable place in the future. I was picturing a sub-Saharan African country or a rural village in mainland China. I never thought that that uncomfortable place would be in the public bathroom of the Toronto Zoo, or on the Mississauga Transit bus.
