Holiness, holiness is what I long for
Holiness is what I need
Holiness, holiness is what You want for me
Take my life, and form it
Take my mind, transform it
Take my will, conform it
To Yours
To Yours
O Lord
Thanks to Pastor Nelson for clarifying my question on holiness.
It's an impossible command: "Be holy therefore as I am holy." And yet, there it is -- a command that we as Christians must obey if we say that we love God. And it's not that we take on God's holiness upon ourselves if it were some cheap faux fur cape to cover our broken, flawed & dirty bodies. No, because we are cleansed from our sins by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross & His resurrection, we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to obey the command to be holy, as He is holy. How is it possible, this seeming impossibility? We are not left blind or helpless; we have been given direction and a basis for what a holy life consists of -- what we have dubbed "the Holy Bible". An answer that's plain as the nose on your face can't be given to answer the question of how holiness can be achieved by human beings. I believe that by loving God wholly and obeying His commands -- hence, worshiping Him only, praying to Him, submitting to His authority, loving others -- we point our whole lives back to God, and show the attributes of His holiness.
