[Paladin didn't bother with a reply--he didn't even see Eternity's own reply. He had shut the journal and left it as he tore off to Temporary Housing.
Eternity was back--more importantly, he'd been gone, and if he'd been in temporary housing, then he'd died. As Paladin had feared he would...and there was nothing he had done to stop it. What could he have done? Nothing? ...But then, perhaps he could have done something. He didn't know--couldn't know.]
Eternity? [He called when he reached the barrack-like building, walking through the central area and glancing into open doors.] I'm here, Eternity.

[Eternity smirked, shutting the journal after replying. He was sure that Paladin would come. A king? It was still hard to believe, considering his brother's rather submissive qualities. He left the journal on the bed before rising from his bunk and standing by the door, waiting.
It wasn't long before he heard his brother's voice calling him.]
Good to see you, Paladin. [He looked his brother in the eye and stepped forward in greeting.]
That was prompt, Your Majesty. [No smirk, no sign of teasing. He sounded calm and collected enough, but was that the faintest trace of bitterness in his voice?
[He heard the touch of bitterness, but more importantly, he heard the lack of teasing--affectionate or otherwise. Paladin suppressed a wince--there would be time to deal with this...this lack of discretion on Eternity's part later.]
[Or so he hoped, at least.]
I did want to see you. [He ignored the 'Your Majesty,' trying not to show how uncomfortable it made him.] What happened to you? [A foolish thing to ask, perhaps, but he couldn't think of anything else.
In a place like this, people always seem to come and go. Some go... further than others.
[He sought that feeling--the one from his dream that overcame all his senses. He felt the slightest trace, and it wasn't coming from Paladin. But that still wasn't any relief from agitation.]
Over a month ago, I met with... 'myself', and then I disappeared. Lezard found a record of my death. If you wanted to see me, brother... then you should've searched harder.
[He gave Eternity a sharp, sudden look--but not in anger, nor even focused entirely on him, more likely the implications of what he had heard. He had met with 'himself', and the timing was right...]
You had a double as well? And the double... [There was anger, at himself for his self-centeredness during that time, that he didn't notice what had become of Eternity, at the double for what it had done--and underneath it all a tiny thread of relief he didn't dare examine.]
[He started when Eternity mentioned Lezard.] He found--what? [Unspoken, but written all over his face, he wondered why, if Lezard had known, he hadn't mentioned it to him.]
That was how he knew who I was when I returned. [It seemed that Eternity had expected his brother to have known as well. With that, he glared as he continued.] You work for him, don't you?
[Before Paladin could answer, Eternity continued.] Or perhaps that's it--has work preoccupied you so much that you had no time to search?
[Paladin did nothing in the face of Eternity's anger. He was right, he was justified--although he did not have all the facts correct, he certainly had enough.]
It--it wasn't that. I was worried, yes, but I--I did not realize you had been gone for too long until recently. [And he had been stupid to do so.]

[Still obviously disappointed, he turned away from his brother before continuing.]
Something was bothering you when I first wrote--what was it, exactly?
