As it happened, the Princess Melanie was forced, through the rules of the state, to attend school. Her Highness was of the opinion that that sucked, as she was not able to take whichever subjects that she liked, but rather had to meet requirements set by the aforementioned state.
One of these requirements which Melanie detested was that of science. Too many numbers doing weird thngs, you know? Melanie much preferred reading various stories and novels, and writing about them. Abstraction is much more interesting than trying to figure out the reality of gravity and all that - or so the princess was of that opinion.
Despite being the Princess, Melanie could not get around these silly state requirements, and so decided to take the (hopefully) easiest and least mathematical of the sciences that would fulfill those dreaded requirements: astronomy. Let it be noted that Melanie did not want to pursue this subject, but rather picked the least of the evils. Which turned out to be pretty damned evil after all.
One particularly evil day had Melanie wishing she could hit her long-winded, decidedly unfunny instructor over the head with a terrestrial (solid) planet. The Princess was quite bored. "Quite" meaning excruciatingly. Her darling, the Lord Ramil, was quite contented with reading a book, and therefore would not exchange funny notes with his lady. Melanie couldn't bring herself to do the same as he, as it would be far too conspicuous. So she attempted to actually pay attention and take notes.
That idea didn't work.
Luckily, with half the session left to go, a dragon burst into the back of the classroom, spewing sulfurous flames from its many-toothed maw. The other scholars froze in terror as the dragon stretched out its thick, hematite-scaled neck, and snapped up the Professor in less than a second. Melanie thanked the Dieties for the excitement, and Ramil dropped his book in surprise, as it had caught fire. The other students were still too terrified to scream.
The dragon surveyed the room, as though deciding whom to eat next, and then said,
"Don't forget to read through chapter 8 and begin homework two."
The Princess Melanie woke up and left the classroom with the still-engrossed Ramil, lamenting the lack of free dragons in her realm.
