Went out and saw this movie this weekend. I've always been a big fan of martial arts movies, especially those of Jet Li, Tony Jaa and Stephen Chow. The Protector was interesting though. I personally thought the plot was absolutely horrid. However, the spectacular martial arts more than made up for it. While it's not a movie I'd wanna watch again, it was definately worth seeing once. I especially liked the scene where the hero broke the arms and legs of about 50 thugs in a huge brawl scene. Just seeing all of them writhing around on the ground after he was through was just amazing. Unfortunately, the entirety of his lines could be boiled down to simply, "Gimme back my elephant!"
Started work on my tail earlier tonight. Used a swimming pool foam noodle to provide the skeleton, then I'll be overlaying that with the scaled material I managed to find at Jo-Ann's. It looks neat, though it may not sway as realistically as I had hoped. At least it'll be a seperate part so if later on I truly am dissatisfied with it, I can redo the tail without completely redoing the costume. I'm going to be working on the claws next. Decided that it would be a bit easier to blend it in if I make some type of fingerless gauntlets that reach up to my elbows and use the fabric for the fingers, adding claws to that. It'll make it easier to take them off and on without looking really cheesy I think.
I also managed to get some foam for the muscles, but man was that expensive. Even with a coupon it was a bit much to purchase as much as I would have liked. I should have enough, but after talking with a fur from coffee I figured that it might have been easier to construct a head fully out of foam. Unfortunately, that would cost a lot more than what I have in mind. I guess we all have to cut corners somewhere, but I think it'll look alright anyway.
