Yesterday I went for a walk through the little village type place I live in. I guess that technically it's a suburb, because it has all those typically suburban houses and stuff, but it's just houses, save a grocery store the size of a gas station, a pizza place, an elementary and a middle school and that's it. Anyway, I walked past most of the houses around here, the population is just like 1200, so it didn't take too long. It was amazing how the names came to me.
Because yes, it's one of those places that are idyllic on the surface, where everyone knows everyone and the adults think you are playing nice when you really are trying to all but kill each other. So, for every house I passed a name came to mind. I even went passed my best friend in middle school's house and stopped to ring the bell.
I know her family still lives there, because she has what I think translates to spina bifida and I saw her specially equipped car on the driveway. They put a thing on the steering wheel so she can turn with only one hand while using the other one to push the gas pedal which is also up by the wheel. Nobody opened, but the outside light was on in the middle of the day, which is a sure sign of someone being away for a few days. At least I hope that's why nobody answered the door. I haven't seen her for over five years and have acted pretty bratty towards her a few times.
I took some pics on my walk...
First I walked by my elementary school. This is the street it's on, which can
be translated to "Knowledge Road". Very clever.
The main building. When I was in fifth grade the school celebrated its 30th
anniversary. Which means it is 46 years old this year! Damn, I feel old.
I love how the sunlight makes the far side of the building
sort of blurry.
From the tree in front of the playground.
I'm so happy I get to experience spring this year! These flowers
always come up before any trees or bushes have gotten leaves
and are like bright patches of paint against all the rest.
The favorite part of our backyard, the steps leading down to the vegetable
patch. I took this picture on my way from the school to the woods where
I played when I was little. Yes, it was so safe living here, and still, for
the most part, is, that mom could let us go utside by ourselves. We
always came back when we were hungry anyway.
There was a storm right before I came home that damaged a lot of trees.
Although this tree is obviously cut down... I guess it had a lot of branches
broken off or something. In the background, the gymnasium of the middle
school, where I have played so much soccer and handball and had so
many awful gym classes that I never want to go back.
It is comforting in some way to see that my favorite
tree is still standing as tall as ever.
The stream we played by, not far from the house we lived in back then.
I love how the trees and the stream are such good friends.
Intertwined, even.
And here you can see how high the water was right after the snow
melted a couple of months back...
Let me know if you want me to keep posting pics. Flickr is telling me they want me to get a paid account to display more photos than what I already have. Maybe I should just get a paid LJ account instead. Hmmmm...
