CNY 2010

CNY turned out pretty awesome this year!

Reunion dinner was really good!
We had yu sheng and we bought like this new year dish from Ah Yat restaurant..
it had like stewed abalone, oysters, shark fins, tendons, mushrooms... etc..
and we cooked more food! it's was crazy! lol.. but satisfying.

First day we visited my dad's side of the family..
the catered food at grandma's place was quite interesting..
we had like green tea fried rice? it was GREEN!
and erm lychee fish, orange chicken (like lemon chicken but not as sour),
pan fried chive dumplings, lamb curry, normal mixed vege and more..
I can't remember the rest!
chatted with cousins, took pictures, collect ang pow..
then headed to town with my sis in hopes to get a pair of sunglasses..
found a nice pair of Gucci sunglasses but they were out of my budget..
met my cousins Jarryl and Mel after..

I drove us all the way to ECP for turkish food..
then we proceeded to Zen for like beer and oysters!
oysters were going at a dollar a piece!
all 3 of us were trying raw oysters for the first time.. lol..
it was awesome.. I am hooked!
after drinking and eating, we headed to my house.
watched a documentary on MacDonalds, chatted a little more before they headed off to meet their friends..

Second day, we visited mum's side.
Headed to my eldest aunt's house!
THE FOOD SPREAD WAS CRAZY..
my aunt is an awesome cook!
I can't list everything.. but home cooked food FTW..
stewed pork belly and her home-made red bean nian gao are to die for..

chatted with my cousins.. they gave me a lot of advice about my future plans..
my mum's side of the family is a lot more dynamic compared to my dad's side..
most of my cousins on mum's side belong to the Gen X instead of Gen Y..
so they are mostly not highly educated but they are still very successful..
mostly entrepreneurs.. some are in the fashion industry, another has two branches of childcare centres..
I also have a cousin who is an air stewardess and a cousin-in-law who is like the ex-VP of NJC..
they made their mark without really following the beaten path..
dad's side on the other hand are all university students holding desk jobs..
your typical doctor, lawyer indian chief but none as contented with life..
if you know my personality.. it's obvious why I feel a lot more at home with my mum's side of the family.

anyhow I am glad I had an awesome 2nd day cos now I am all pumped up and ready to get work done! (:

random, family, festivity
