He sobs against his shirt sleeve, trying to quiet the sound of his cries.
Besides him, the crown prince coughs in wet, sicking splatters. Blood dots his face; growing ever paler in the trailing sunset. His hand tightens around his manserv- no Merlin until he fears he'll break bone.
"I can fix this Arthur, I can!" he shouts, tears choking him until he's left to gasp for air. A wave of pain comes over him, back arching as a scream escapes his tightly constricted throat. Merlin's hold on his hand tightens still.
Weakling shaking his hand, Arthur gives what he can only hope is a assured smile (it's not).
"Magic doesn't solve everything Merlin. This is my destiny," he whispers, voice broken.
Blue eyes flash gold in anger, because he is so tired of destiny, whispering in his head by creature beneath castle floors. Leaning down, words escape his throat, words so foreign and strange to the prince; he does not understand.
Blood drips from Merlin's nose, his own skin grows paler as Arthur sucks in air greedily (as if each breath is his last). Gold burns into his own eyes as Merlin leans in to press an insistent kiss upon Arthur's lips. His hold slackens as he falls to the ground besides him, body cold to the touch.
Pressing unbelieving hand to his heart, Arthur found no gaping hole. Looking to the ground, he realized the hole was no longer physical (still there bleeding).
