Well, I had a fairly interesting night, for once. Yesterday somebody mentioned to me that there was a videogame tournament going down at the HUB, and the main event was Smash Brothers Melee - naturally, I knew I had to at least try out. Going in, I really didn’t expect to make it that far at all; I’ve been playing mostly the original Smash Brothers lately since it’s what everyone else on my hall is used to. Hell, considering the thick coat of dust that’s been on my Gamecube lately, I don’t think I’ve been playing Smash 2 regularly for quite some time. So you can imagine that I was pretty happy with myself when I actually made it to the final round of four people from a starting pool of sixty-four competitors. Ultimately, I tied for second place in the final round, just two points behind of the winner. But considering how shitty I thought I was going to do walking into the tournament, I’m pretty impressed with myself. Yeah, I realize that’s a really nerdy thing to be proud of it (I expect a comment from Butler any moment now about how much of a loser I am).
I also got the chance to see the Mexican film “Y Tu Mama Tambien” today, and I’m still thinking about it. It was a great film, but it ends on a cryptic note, and you’re left to wonder what exactly some of the movie’s events mean. Good stuff, though. I also went swing dancing, although nothing out of the ordinary happened there. Certainly didn’t get second place in anything dancing-related. All I want out of tomorrow right now is a hearty brunch, start working on my religious studies paper (at least get some of the research portion of the work done), catch up on my reading for a few classes, and watch some good TV (Angel and Alias) at night. Hey, I’m a film major - watching TV is homework.
I’m out.
