This year was my year for derby. I was going to throw myself into it and really get fit, learn more skills and play. At the end of the year, if I didn't like it I would think carefully about what I wanted from it and make a decision to quit or continue being involved in another way. The year was intense. There were injuries, dramas and hardly any time free for anything else but I feel like I really have it everything. And the horrible nervousness I would feel before games is not as strong and the feeling after a game is extraordinary. It come with the adrenalin but it also come with a sense of satisfaction for things that I have achieved. I am finishing the season with an injury but with a positive thought that it will heal and I can play again. And I enjoyed my year so I will sign up again next year and see where it takes me.
This dedication did mean that other parts of my life were neglected. I hardly saw my other friends. I missed out in board gaming. We didn't role play and my work balance was seriously thrown out. So next year has a few goals.
1. I am going to make sure I get a Friday night a month at least for social outings. This will give me a chance to hang out with other people, play games and role play. I need to do this for me and for Paul.
2. I am going to begin accreditation to become a lead teacher. It is a 2-3 year process and I expect it will take a lot of my energy but I have had such encouragement from the retiring AP and my Principal has encouraged me to apply for a relieving role despite my 3 days a week so I feel that I should give myself this option in my career. I still have a lot of teaching ahead of me and there is a possibility that I might like to go back full time. Or that I feel like I need that change for the sake of my sanity. The current relieving AP is also going to to hers next year so it seems like a good plan. There is safety and support in numbers and we can fumble through together.
So they are big plans. But I can do it.
