Damnit!

I want to run a Return of the Scarlet Empress campaign right the hell now! Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait until I get to Madison. That being said I do intend to run this campaign as soon as I am in a place with fellow gamers.

At first I thought "But Andy, there's already l5r running Madison, you should run Exalted!" And then I looked back and realized what you actually said. Exalted! It should happen oh god when are you getting here?! Lex and I decided that we were going to show up outside the house you're moving into with a portable table, chairs, and some dice, and insist you run a pickup for us before we helped you move in. We could maybe save it until after we helped you move in. Maybe.

I currently want to run 2 games in Madison, 1 exalted and 1 L5R on the Saturday's when the LARP isn't. I'm leaning towards the above mentioned exalted game and a thousand years of darkness L5R game.

Both Lex and I have character concepts for Southern desert barbarians that we've wanted to play for quite some time, would those fit in to said exalted game? Mine, at least, is very civilized.

The plot I have in my head is currently focused around a mixed circle of exalts (basically whatever anyone wants to play) who have found out about the impedning apocalypse and are working with the sidereals to prevent it.

1000 years of darkness? Is this the setting where Fu Leng won and the only bastion of hope is Florida Mantis Lands? Because I've been wanting to play in that setting for like, forever. Would it be 3rd edition or 4th edition.

The Return of the Scarlet Empress campaign sounds pretty great too, though I haven't read that book.

4th ed. and yes, that is the setting, although there are some other safe places, the dragon mountain passes could be collapsed, saving most of the dragon mountains, also nobody can find Gisei Toshi, so it is safe too, but yeah, most of the world: Fucked.

So the Phoenix still survive in some limited fashion, then?

Also, somehow I think being a shinobi is suddenly a lot more popular occupation...

and, aside from the crane and the phoenix, many clans are forced to accept the rule of fu leng and are allowed to live tainted miserable lives.

Is this because the Crane and the Phoenix are mostly dusted, or because they managed to find a way to hide?

aside from their stronghold in Gisei Toshi the phoenix are almost utterly wiped out. The False Hotouri takes a sadistic glee in hunting down and killing as many crane as it can with an army from the shadowlands and help from the lion. The Pacifistic Asahina are completely wiped out, as are the Kakita. A few of the doji flee to the daidoji lands, where Daidoji uji makes a fighting retreat to the coast and some crane survive in the mantis islands, but none of their lands survive. The Lion capitulate (although they refer to it as serving the emperor), the Crab hole up in a few bastions, the scorpion don't technically exsist, although what does exsist is tainted, and most of the unicorn basically say "fuck this" and ride off. The mantis isles (Lead by Totouri), dragon lands, and Gisei Toshi are the only "safe" settlements in Rokugan.

...damn. How long ago did Fu Leng win (as in, how long has this been the state of things)?

I'm considering setting this about 10 years after the fall of Fu Leng, long enough for things to stabilize.

So Fu Leng has lost already, then?

no, I meant 10 years after the fall of the empire and the rise of Fu Leng, but I wrote the wrong thing in the previous comment.

Have you any thought on how that campaign will go, yet? I mean, will the players be on the side of Fu Leng, working against him, working as Dragons in the mountains, etc., or will you be leaving it up to the players to decide what they want to do?

definitely working against Fu Leng, probably starting in either the Manits isles or Gisei Toshi, allowing PCs from any clan. That is about all the thought I had given it this early.
