Okay, dudes, FATE is totally MAKING REVENGE in a lot of ways I'm not cool with! (For those of you who don't know, FATE MAKES REVENGE is a recent Esta-ism that foodsthatcan, fizzybottlecap and I love. Esta says that FATE will MAKE REVENGE at the Olympics, mostly on skaters bearing the BLACK MARK OF TARASSOVA, i.e., skaters who have been coached or choreographed by Russian ( Read more... )

OB, Rosie x 100000000000000!!!!!!!

Also, I hope Tanith crows about her citizenship for the next year. She knows she's the recipient of a MIRAKEL, and she'd best not forget it! I'd be really ticked if so many people went to such great lengths to help her become naturalized and she acted completely indifferently about it. (Not to mention, anyone who becomes a citizen of another country ought to be happy or at least appreciative about it.)

MY HUSBAND is HOTT even though he robs cradles!!! That is all.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HEDLEY HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was really tempted to delete this, but I will leave it just to say this:

Not to mention, anyone who becomes a citizen of another country ought to be happy or at least appreciative about it.Uh, when said person is getting citizenship for the sole purpose of skating in the Olympics and probably a) would not have bothered otherwise and b) most likely has no plans to stay once her career is over, I think gushing endlessly about how great it is to be a citizen is a little hypocritical ( ... )

Yo, brej, you know I'm all about the Canadian pride and all, and even though I may not know the details of the situation - aside from what you two, and some random articles I've been skimming have told me - I think I'm with Nikki on this one. Regardless of what Tanith's reasons were for wanting to get citizenship, and even if she never would have tried to get citizenship if it wasn't for the whole Olympics debacle, I think it would be completely disrespectful of her not to be displaying excitement and appreciation for it.

I mean, I'm really not sure I like the idea of someone being given special treatment just because they're an athlete and they need to compete in the Olympics, because I know of so many people who have had to wait much longer for the same thing, and it really isn't fair or right that her stuff got worked out so quickly. But she did get her citizenship and I don't think there's anything wrong with her being happy about it. Just because she's showing that she's happy/proud/whatever about this, doesn't mean she's ( ... )

I don't care if she was anti-Canada... or I do, but that's not the issue, really. I just find all the gushing and attention given to this whole thing annoying because a) like you said, there are so many people who have been waiting for citizenship for years who were a lot worse off than Tanith, and no one was lining up to sign petitions or create special amendments for them, and b) seriously, the government should have better things to do than waste time creating miracles for Olympic athletes. Also, the bill that the amendment granting Tanith (and others) citizenship was attached to was deeply flawed in more than one way, with significant cuts to health care, research, and educational programs. Seriously, if we'd granted Ben Agosto Canadian citizenship under those terms, I'd be pissed, too.

And, no matter what, no one should ever be so appreciative of their American citizenship that they get a damn "God Bless America" exhibition! Including "Born in the U.S.A." and "American Woman", two songs which I cannot understand why no one realizes that they are NOT compliments to the U.S. Although I guess Tanith's a typical Amerikun if she (and Igor and Ben) don't know that.

Yaz, you totally forgot to update about the best FATE MAKES REVENGE in figure skating history-- my Euros 2006 entry will be chock full of Drobiazko and Vanagas coming back after four years and beating the crap out of Chait and Sakhnovsky. Bwah!
