KSDNFKDSFKDFSKDFDlfkdlfd;dkfjsdlkf!!! LOOK!
The pictures above are from Shae-Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz's induction into the Canadian Figure Skating Hall of Fame this past Sunday. For those of you out of the skating loop, Bourne & Kraatz were ten-time Canadian champions in ice dance and 2003 World Champions, the first and only North American skating team to ever stand on top of the dance podium at Worlds. They then broke up less than a year later because Victor didn't want to skate pro and for various other reasons, and were estranged for quite some time after that. Shae went on to pursue a solo dance career and married their ex-coach (who was eville and continued his homewrecking ways by impregnating another skater while he was married to Shae and then leaving her high and dry), and Victor and his wife (a former ice dancer from Finland) started coaching in Vancouver.
ANYHOW. B&K were, along with Kurt Browning, my favourite skaters ever. Seriously, their skating was, to my emo youth, what Stars are to my old age twenties - the artistic representation of my personal vision of beauty. Their skating brought me a lot of joy and I was pretty devastated when they split, so to see them together again, obviously emotional about their accomplishments together, is, like... sdkfjdlskfslldskfljsldkfksllsdf. I really don't have words and if I was being perfectly honest I'd admit those pictures made me kind of teary.
Some of my favourite B&K moments, thanks to YouTube:
1995 Worlds - Schmuse Blues/Sing Sing Sing 1998 Worlds - Riverdance 1998 Skate Canada - Seachran 2002 Grand Prix Final - Michael Jackson Medley And last but not least, one of my favourite skating programs of all time:
Exhibition to Enigma's Return to Innocence Oh, B&K. I will always love you, even though you did a lot of stupid things back in the day and turned faux-Russian on me and everything. I hope CTV shows the induction ceremony during their Parade of Champions coverage this weekend so I can cry for real because I am so lame, yo.
