Monthly Challenge Help.

Feb 03, 2006 22:15

Okie dokie y'all. We Mods have been wracking our brains and have decided to bring the issue to the Community. We've got approximately 200 people who watch/have joined the community, yet every month we're really struggling to get entries to the Resource Challenges. So it's time for some input from y'all. We want to know what we need to do to get ( Read more... )

I'm pretty much a lurker here, I must admit. I can't make brushes or gradients worth a diddly. Photoshop has finally stopped kicking my ass mostly because of these live journal communities and actually taking the time to read some of the tut's, etc.

So here is my take on things from a lurker standpoint. And please, nobody take offense!!

You've got an awesome community. I've really seen 'you' (the mods) trying to turn this into something really special and I've noticed that the participation just isn't as enthusiastic as it could be.

I even pimped the community in my journal the other day and nobody joined! And I pimped it because I felt your comm deserved the recognition. I'm going to have to do something about that and pimp again because I KNOW I have a lot of graphic slaves on my flists who would very much enjoy this community.

Now onto your questions...

What resources would you MOST enjoy making for the Challenges? Brushes? Textures? Bases? Gradients? Tutorials? Something else?As I already said, I can't make brushes. And I ( ... )

Well, I don't think any of us are pulling out our hair over the lack of participation, but we'd sure like it if more people do particiapte. None of us want to seem like we have to kick butts to get entries in, and yes, we realize that most people have joined more than one community and participate in challenges elsewhere and stuff. We're just seeing what improvements we can make.

Thanks for replying! :-)

I'm probably a bad person to do the replying, because I usually submit something, even if it's not destined for a trophy ( ... )

>Input: I prefer artist-made challenge previews, just tell everyone to make sure their user/names aren't on anything.
The main problem with previews is that some people will then (subconsciously) vote for the prettiest preview instead of the best entry. Erin (kalijean) and I discussed this when we were running the first challenge and thought it was more fair if we would just make a *.jpg of the entry (like I did with the brushes), or a html page, or use Photobucket, etcetera.

Thanks for your comment. :)

I don't know how you'd judge a tutorial, either. Easiest to follow? Best results produced? I don't know, I consider tutorials a resource though, and was just throwing it out there, hehe.

As for Rules, yes, I agree, doing one resource per challenge seems the simplest way to go.

Thanks for replying! :)

1. i mostly use brushes, gradients, and most textures. (like ones from colorfilter, gender, yumei_k, etc)
2. yah, it's enough time. considering i do a LOT of challenges. lol!
3. none that i can see. you're doing great!
4. yes. the last one i couldn't get any ideas on what to make. i was fiddling around with the textures and came up with nothing. i had a brain fart that night. :(
5. none that i can think of.
6. *comes up with nothing* heh. ;)

Yep, we'd like to make resources that people would like to use. :-)

Thanks for the comments though! :-)

Oh dear, here comes the tag lady again. ^^ I changed the tag on this entry to 'announcement', I know it's not an announcement technically speaking but at least this way everything we say to (or ask) the community, is under one tag. I removed the tag 'challenges', because we've already got the tag 'resource contest' and 'icon contest'. That's all. :)

About the comments so far, it seems like some people prefer two weeks instead of one month. Which, if I would enter, would be enough time for me as well.

Also, I think it's a good idea if we post links to tutorials on how to make whatever they're supposed to make for that challenge.

I don't mind about the tag change. :-)

Edited my post up there. Yes, seems like 2 weeks or so is plenty of time.

I don't know about posting tutorials, other than to provide a link to the entry in the memories that has a list of tutorial communities? Did you have something specific in mind?
