Tyzula drabble

From my modern AU verse, which I might have to rechristen my lesbianverse if things continue at this pace. :)

Mai was a good choice for a friend. She wasn't prone to sentimentality, and she threw darts. Her aim was deadly. Azula liked that. It could be useful.

So that was one friend. To maintain appearances, it would be best to have another.

She didn't consider Ty Lee. She wanted someone collected. Calm. Azula had plans for her friends, and she needed to pick the right people to make this work.

Ty Lee was bouncy, and outgoing, and friendly, and there was no way that she was an appropriate choice. But Azula didn't get to make a choice. Ty Lee just... inserted herself into the situation. And now there was no removing her, so Azula was going to have to make this work.

Well, she just needed to put the fear of Azula in the vacuous little head, and she'd have someone she could rely on. She had to be intimidating and inspiring, someone who put fear and awe side-by-side into the hearts of anyone she chose.

And then one day Ty Lee kissed her full on the lips, for no reason at all.

Azula let out a gasp of surprise, carefully calculated to sound flustered. (Although it took less calculation than she was willing to admit to herself)

This could work very well, actually. After all, wasn't love supposed to be one of the most powerful emotions? If Azula needed someone to follow her without question, love might be a useful tool.

Things progressed reasonably quickly. At first, Azula watched sappy movies and tried to model her behavior on that of the stupid heroines. But Ty Lee was nothing like the men in those movies, and she wasn't much like the women either, so those movies weren't a very good model.

So she kept behaving as normal, but with additional kissing in the larger bathroom stall and the janitors closet and her room at home when Uncle was gone and Zuko was being moody in his room with Mai.

And one day Azula realized that she didn't like it when boys flirted with Ty Lee.

Was that love? Was that what it felt like? To want someone just for yourself? Azula decided it must be.

Sometimes they did more than kiss, and Azula's breath came out in ragged gasps that sounded a little like “Mine. Mine. Mine.”

Ty Lee let her fingers continue wandering, and whispered in Azula's ear: “I am.”

Yes. Everything was going according to plan. Azula let herself smile.
