Who; Gemini and Chevalier.
What; They argue over fate.
When; Shortly after
this.
'Angry' was an understatement. This wasn't, this shouldn't, be happening. Chevalier was shaking with rage as he shoved himself up from the computer and marched down the hall to Gemini's room. He didn't even bother to knock and let himself in.
"You," he blurted out, "are not supposed to have a purpose. You aren't supposed to have any part in this."
Gemini had reached some sort of zen after leaving the Albrecht's, realizing her purpose had left her calm and resigned, and Chevalier's attitude wouldn't be able to damage her newfound calm. She pushed her chair out from her desk and looked at him, "I don't see why this makes you so upset. I thought you would be happy for me."
On some level, Gemini knew he would be angry but a small part of her had hoped she would be wrong. There was another part of her that had been hoping he wasn't involved but she'd long ago abandoned that false hope. Everyone on that community had a purpose, she was proof of that.
"How can I be happy? You're..." he trailed off, trying to form the words with his hands but nothing coming. "... I finally could do something that you couldn't, this was my chance to be something, and then the Kamui who's afraid of her own shadow goes and chooses Seal, which I could have been happy about! But no. No. Then you have to step up or whatever it is that happens and suddenly you're above me."
He stopped to take a deep breath. "That's why I'm not happy for you."
"I didn't do this because I wanted to. It just happened, Chevalier. She chose and suddenly I knew everything. I understood everything. I had a side and a place and it all made sense." She frowned, not because he was angry but because he didn't understand why this was important to her.
"I'm sorry that you can't be happy for me but I don't want you to hold this against me. I can't give up my destiny because you don't like it."
It was slowly dawning on him that all of this, everything he was so angry about, was irrational and really, Gemini didn't deserve having his frustration because it wasn't her he was angry with. But he was past the point of taking it all back, and there were plenty of little insecurities and issues he'd kept secret for a long time.
"I don't care.
She smiled at him, "Yes you do. You're jealous. I understand that much."
But behind the innocence of her smile, there was a hint of maliciousness. "You're angry that destiny didn't choose you."
He ground his teeth together, hands balled into fists. "No, it's because I hate you."
Now he was damaging her calm.
Gemini stood up slowly and walked over to him, "You're being a brat." Before he could give a reply to that, she slapped him.
Chevalier was frozen, the words dying in his throat. She'd just
Without a second thought he sent a judgement beam across the room.
Gemini gasped and stared at him. He'd used her own power against her! And burned a hole in her carpet in the process. "You --"
She narrowed her eyes and let a beam of light shoot down right next to him, barely missing his toes. To hell with her carpet.
... the world made a little more sense after that.
Chevalier stared down at the burn, scowling. Even that stupid power was hers all along?
"I'm going out."
She frowned but knew there was no point in trying to stop him when he was upset like this. "Don't get killed," she said calmly.
"-- And wear a sweater. It's cold out today."
