Chevalier confesses to Gemini about what happened to Niko. Backdated to shortly after the barrier attack.

It had been weeks since he'd burnt down Nikolaus' home and murdered him, and since Gemini had never asked him directly if he had done it, he'd seen no reason to offer any information.

It's not like he felt guilty.

But she was still grumbling about it, and it couldn't hurt to tell her. Really. Chevalier knocked on his sister's bedroom door. "Can we talk?"

Gemini had returned home in a good mood, their attack on the barrier had been nothing but a success, tt had been just the thing they needed to solidfy them as a team. Unfortunately, with the deaths of Percival and Viola, their team had gone from a solid group to something she was unsure about in just one attack. She'd been so proud. Then to hear she'd lost two of her own in the shuffle. She didn't want newcomers. She wanted her team. She wanted Niko.

Damien more than made up for it but Gemini was still bothered all the same by his disappearance. She didn't have much time to continue thinking about it after the knock on her door, "Of course, Chevalier. Come in."

Chevalier stepped inside, closing the door again behind him.

... he was tired. He was tired a lot lately. He'd go to bed after they talked, he decided.

"I know what happened to Nikolaus."

She immediately looked up, dropping her pen at the mention of Niko. "Chevalier," her voice had picked up a sense of urgency. "Is he... -- Tell me what you know." She hesitated a moment. "... Please."

Her intensity surprised him a little. Chevalier frowned, hands clasped behind his back.

"I killed him."

Gemini's face fell, "You... Please tell me this is a joke, Chevalier."

"Why would I joke about this?" He was slightly offended at that. Chevalier shifted his weight from one leg to the other.

"You... Killed him. You killed one of my Angels. He was useful, Chevalier." Gemini frowned, her eyes glaring at him to hard she felt like they might just burn through him.

It was just like before, wasn't it? Betrayal. It was all the same, no matter the person. He would learn that, just like her other Angels would. "Just like you once were."

Chevalier squared his shoulders. This conversation wasn't going like he'd expected.

Not the way he'd expected at all.

"Gemini?"

She pushed herself out of her chair and stood up, "I'm very sorry, Chevalier. But I can't allow disobedience among my Angels, I just can't. If I were to punish Elias for what he did but not you, what would the others think?" Gemini stepped forward, backing Chevalier into the wall, "It wouldn't be fair to treat you differently simply because we're related."

She looked at her baby brother for a moment, he'd always been so pretty, she'd make sure he stayed that way. It's what their mother would want. She smiled at him, "I promise we'll meet again, Chevalier."

... should have kept his mouth shut. Chevalier bit his lip, suddenly realising that he should have known better, really.

He was the one who told her she had to deal with her Angels disobeying, after all, and his pride and hatred for Nikolaus had blinded him.

Chevalier reached to squeeze his sister's hand. "I'm sure we will."

Gemini held his hand tightly, her smile never fading. He'd accepted death, just as she had. She promised herself that it would be much easier after this, it would all be easier. She closed her eyes and her smile gave the tiniest falter as she heard his neck snap and felt his grip go limp.

There would be no explaining this to their father, she thought. He would have to be the next to go, she was positive he would understand.
