Takes place this afternoon. This can be summed up rather easily.
"I am crazy about you let's go blow things up."
"OKAY :D"
The call came suddenly, and almost out of the blue; typically, Cori was the first to approach Skye for anything, whether it be over the phone or in person. Very rarely did he come to her. It wasn't in his nature, she guessed, but she found it a little cute nonetheless.
She pulled the door to his apartment open, as it was unlocked, and smiled as she set her feet inside. "Hello!"
He was making an effort to act normal, to return to how he thought he used to be before this year began, but maybe he was just changing. Either way, he certainly wasn't as angry.
"Just let yourself in," he said with a smile in return.
"I kind of already have," she pointed out, winking as she shut the door. "So what's up? It sounded important."
"I noticed." He motioned to her over the sofa to sit. "Right. This might sound weird, but. What would you think about the two of us going to take out a barrier?"
He had, after all, told Katharina he'd like to be useful.
She stared at him. Cori tilted her head to the side, surprised at the proposal. "Seriously?" She started humming to herself, slowly allowing a smile to grace her lips. "That could be fun."
She told Katharina she'd be useful, too. She owed it to her Kamui to prove herself. "And no, when you're an Angel, it isn't weird at all. Does Katharina know you want to act on your own?"
He nodded. "We've talked. But I thought I'd ask if you'd like to join first before I tried to pick a place."
In a twisted, morbid sense, it was almost sweet of Skye to ask. Her cheeks flushed. Cori straightened herself, masking the involuntary action by flipping her blonde braid onto the other shoulder. "I'm fine with anything so long as you're there at my side."
Skye cleared his throat a little, averting his eyes at her comment and her movements. "Well that settles it."
"Guess so!" she agreed, moving the braid back to the other shoulder.
He chewed on his lower lip. "... I'll see what I can come up with then." Iain would never tell him what was left, but then again, he didn't have to directly ask.
She frowned. "You mean, you don't know what barrier you want to attack?" Cori found that almost... funny, actually. Really funny. She stiffled a laugh by covering her mouth with a hand. "Well! I know you'll figure it out."
"It's still just an idea," he shot her a look, eyes narrowed at her laughter. "I will."
The glare was all it took for Cori to promptly shut the hell up. She cleared her throat and turned her attention towards her feet. "I'm sorry."
... Damn. He hadn't intended for that. Skye glanced away as well, head tilting up at the ceiling. "No, don't be."
Cori bit hard into her lip. "But... uhm, I made you mad and I deserved that."
He glanced at her from the corner of his eyes, then back at the ceiling. "... I'm not mad."
"You're only saying that to make me feel better." She sighed. Everything was always her fault. She brought this upon herself when she... did that. Cori bit even harder into her lip, praying that the pain would make the memories disappear.
Skye frowned and looked at her. Really, really looked at her. There was no way him being cranky as usual would make her act like this. "Cori?"
She didn't meet his gaze. She couldn't bear to look at him now. "What?"
He hesitated, unsure if this would only upset her more, but a moment later Skye pulled her closer and hugged her.
It did upset her more, but at the same time she wanted him to do this so, so badly that her satisfaction outweighed her guilt. Cori leaned into him, burying her face in the crook of his neck, eyes wet with tears.
He rested his cheek against her hair, just holding her there until she wanted to pull away. Somehow, someway, this felt familier, but not from something he could put a date to.
She had the impulse to kiss him there and now, but Cori fought it with every ounce of her being. No, no, no, she couldn't do that, not again, at least not now... this was nice. This was better than nice. This was wonderful. Because she always longed to be embraced by him like this and have him mean it.
"You are way too sweet," she sniffed, pulling her head up.
"Only you seem to think so," he leaned back a little to look at her again. "You okay?"
She nodded. "I will be?" She wiped a tear off her cheek. "Gimme a moment or two."
He grabbed a couple kleenex and handed them to her. "Take your time. I'm not going anywhere."
