WHO: Gabriela and Pedro de Silva.
WHAT: A conversation.
WHEN: Immediately after
this.
Pedro said he wanted to talk, so the most Gabriela could do was follow his request and, well, talk to him. Although why he used the apocalypse community to send out that message, as opposed to just coming to her face-to-face, was beyond her. Oh well. That was Pedro in a nutshell. Not like Gabriela didn't do anything odd once in a while either.
So for now she was content to sit on her bed, legs crossed, hands folded over her lap. And wait.
Pedro took a little longer than it should have taken him to walk to her room, as he was not particularly looking forward to this conversation. He preferred it when his social life had been much more straightforward. He had meant to mention to her several times before, but he could always find a good excuse or, in a pinch, a bad excuse not to bring it up. If it weren't for the fact that he had already mentioned it to her on the community, he probably would have put it off to the next day.
He reached out to knock, but, realizing that she was waiting for him and probably didn't need the knock, he just opened the door slowly.
"Hi!" he said as he stuck his head around the door.
She flashed her cousin a smile. "Hey." Gabriela tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. "You wanted to talk?"
He smiled back as he entered, but it was a bit nervous. "Yes!" he said. "Uh, it's sorta related to this end of the world stuff, but not really, but kinda in a way." He scratched the back of his neck, trying to think of a good way to start. "So, uh...I though I probably should tell you about it since you're the Seal leader and all." He took a deep breath. "I met this girl on the community. She's an Angel."
She gave him a look. Gabriela had a hunch as to where this conversation might lead, but at the same time, she was very, very curious as to whether or not it would. And to how Pedro presented this story.
"Uh huh?"
He swallowed heavily. He didn't think that look boded well.
"Annnnd, well, we talked a lot and then we started to do stuff together and one thing led to another and...." He paused for a moment. "Uh. Well. Yeah. I thought you should know."
Nothing quite like a woman's intuition, Gabriela mentally sighed.
Her brow furrowed. "By 'one thing lead to another', did you two...?"
"Well, she said she liked me and I like her and so we're, uh, dating?" he said, shifting a little uncomfortably.
Oh. That was a relief. She assumed that they... well, anyway. There she went putting her own experiences in the way of what was really happening. Gabriela coughed, straightening her posture.
"Well, I can't be mad at you, that would be silly." She forced herself to smile. "Feelings are feelings, you know?" She could, however, argue all night over her cousin's taste in women, if he was going after an Angel. But the same could applied to Lucia as well, so she bit her tongue. Plus, he was family. She should at least look happy for him, right?
Right?
Pedro, being unobservant as always, took her words and expression at face value and sighed in relief. He was worried that she was going to insist that he not see her again. I mean, he would have been touched at her concern and all, but he wouldn't want to obey that at the same time as not wanting to disobey her in something that had to do with the Seals. And that would have gotten very awkward.
"Yeah," he replied. "And she doesn't know I'm a Seal yet, though I probably should tell her before she finds out because we meet up at a barrier attack or something."
She nodded. "You owe that much to her, I think. If you can't be honest with her, Pedro, then... you're not going to get very far. Or be very happy." She smiled. "Thankfully, I know you're not that kind of guy."
He almost started into what had been his excuse over the past months that he had not meant to lie to her, but that he hadn't known when he first met her and then there was no good place to tell her, but stopped himself. That wasn't necessary.
"Yeah, that's what I was thinking!" He smiled in return. "...Thanks for being so understanding."
"I'd be more worried about Juana," she advised with a wink. "She still thinks I think boys have cooties. And that I'm not interested in dating at all. So, unless you want to keep this secret, have fun talking to her about it."
She shifted positions on the bed. "So, Pedro, what's the name of this lucky girl?"
Pedro stifled a groan. "Oh yeah, that. I'll tell her...uh, eventually. At least I won't have to explain the whole Angel thing, since 'my girlfriend blows up buildings in her spare time' prooooobably wouldn't go over so well!"
He grinned. "Oh yeah, I almost forgot to tell you her name! It's Inês."
"Oh, her? Think I've seen her around." She paused, trying to stick a face to the name. "Yeah, I have."
She leaned forward. "Also, Pedro, this goes without saying, but you are who you are, so." Gabriela cleared her throat and peered at him with an intense stare. "You know what you're about to get into, right?"
He nearly took a step backwards from the intensity of the stare, but he managed to decrease it to just a small shuffling of his feet. "Uh, I think so? I mean, I can't know what the future holds, but I think I've got a reasonably good idea?"
"No, I mean..." She frowned. "She is an Angel. I couldn't tell this to Lucia, because she's not related to me." Gabriela placed an arm on Pedro's shoulder. "Just... please, be careful. You might like her, but she is an Angel. She might not hurt you, but if one of the other Angels knew... well, they might."
Gabriela bit her lip and stood from the bed. "So what I'm asking you here is, basically? Look sharp, mind yourself, and don't do anything you'll regret later on." She took a deep breath. "I already lost Carlos. Please, don't make me lose you."
Pedro's face was not used to being held in a serious expression, but it made its best effort to take on one as Gabriela spoke. When she finished, he was silent for a moment. She already had so many things to worry about and, even if she sometimes seemed to be the older one from the way they both acted, she was still only seventeen. He certainly couldn't have handled all of what was expected of her when he was seventeen--really, he was sure that he couldn't have handled it at any age. He knew that she was completely capable and trusted her completely, but he didn't want to add to her worries in any way if he could avoid it at all.
"I'll be careful," he said. "Not like when I say I'm always careful, since we both know that I'm not, really. But I'll make sure to be safe, whatever happens! I promise." He smiled a little. "Of course, the same goes for you! You have to make sure you get through this yourself--no more people are going to get lost because of this silly apocalyptic mess from this family, at least!"
She smiled. "Thank you, Pedro. Really."
He grinned and gave a thumbs up. "No problem!" He moved over to where she was standing and gave her a one-armed hug. "Thank you to you, too!"
