This is backdated back to... probably June 14th or 15th. A very very long time, either way, but it needed to be done.
Deep breaths. Deep breaths. Deep breaths.
Cori hesitated before Skye's door, unsure if she should really knock, or even walk inside. She could walk away from this now, let the issue drop, and never bring it up until Skye found out on his own. Then she wouldn't have to deal with the reaction now. But, she argued with herself, she would still have to deal with it. Now wasn't the time for flaking out.
Still, it didn't make this confession stuff any easier.
Taking another deep breath, Cori rang the doorbell, straightened her posture, and smiled.
Skye frowned and turned off the TV before he went to get the door. He wasn't expecting anyone, and he certainly wasn't expecting Cori to be standing there with her 'I have something to tell you' face.
Since she hadn't even told him what it was last time. Skye smiled back and let her inside.
"Hi."
"Hey!" she beamed, reaching to hug him. "What's up?"
He hugged her back, and the smile warmed up a little more. "Nothing, really."
"Great," she grinned, letting him go. "That's really great."
She began playing with one of her braids. "So! I said we needed to talk, didn't I?"
Skye went to sit back down on the sofa, gesturing for her to follow. "Yeah. Thought you'd forgotten."
"Not completely!" she said sheepishly. "I just... well! Yeah. Can I take a seat next to you?" She didn't even give Skye the time to answer; Cori assumed he would say yes. "Right, so. Okay. I've been wanting to get this off my chest for the last two weeks but every time I tried to tell you I lost the nerve to do it and I think I'm starting to lose it again, so please, Skye, bear with me?"
Hello, run-on sentence. She paused for a breath or two.
He stayed silent, giving a small nod. She was actually getting to the point of telling him? Like hell he would distract her.
She waited another moment before opening her mouth to speak.
"I'm an Angel now."
Skye opened his mouth to reply, then quickly closed it, frowning.
"... since when?"
"Two weeks ago?" she frowned. "That's kind of why I mentioned it a second ago..."
Skye leaned back into the sofa, looking away from her, then glancing back quickly.
God damn everything, but why her?
"You should leave."
Oh, no.
"Skye..."
"Just go, Cori."
"Please, Skye, don't be this way," she said, her breath quickening. "I never wanted you to be mad at me, honestly, I never want that."
He stared at the blank TV screen, watching their reflections. Had she thought that hiding it would have made it all better, then?
And the stupid question of 'why her' kept repeating itself in his head. Skye ground his teeth a little and got up to get the door for her.
"... Fine," she grumbled, eyes downcast. "I'm leaving! That's what you want, right?"
Cori left without another word, eyes stinging with tears.
He ground his teeth until his jaw ached and shut the door behind her, and he was alone again. Skye leaned his forehead against the wall.
Why her?
