Andrew
Matthew
The past week had been frustrating in terms of not being able to move around much, and worrisome from noticing the lack of sleep his bedmate wasn't getting. Matthew hadn't said anything when, by Sunday, Andrew seemed to settle down as far as sleeping went.
But seeing him fidgeting around when awake... well, that was another matter alltogether.
Tea was set two inches away from the paper Andrew was solving the crossword puzzle in, before Matthew sat down next to him, with a cup of his own. His eye was still bandaged, although it didn't exactly hurt anymore.
That caught Andrew's attention, and he glanced up, setting down his pen.
He had to wonder if he was ever going to get used to seeing that bandage. Or at least, if he was ever going to be able to see it without having to stifle a pang of guilt.
"Hi."
"Hi." Matthew almost smiled. It was surprisingly serene, not having to think about 14K business. Although he did worry about Vienne.
But Andrew wasn't exactly handling that not working thing quite as well. "Bored?"
"Very."
Crossword puzzles only held you over for so long, and there wasn't much on TV that was worth watching. And while Andrew normally would've gone to the gym or shot hoops or something, doing anything like that would defeat the purpose of staying home from work in the first place.
"We could venture outside." Although it was fairly hot, there were always venues that had air conditioning. And it wasn't something Matthew had done for quite a while.
"Something other than sitting around here? Sign me up." Andrew leaned back in his chair and stretched.
"As long as you don't pull any stitches." He watched him stretch, and sipped his tea. "Though it doesn't include leaning back in any chairs."
"Contrary to popular belief, I can be careful when I have to." If he pushed his luck, he'd just need even longer to get back into the swing of things, and as tempting as it was to quit sitting around and go do something, Andrew knew better than to let himself have that lapse of judgment.
"Shock." He probably should've thought about this a little before making tea, but Matthew put his cup down and got to his feet. "Leaving then?"
Sometimes Matthew was as bad as Dana. Andrew rolled his eyes and got up. "Right."
"What do you want to do?"
"I hadn't really thought that far ahead? Just getting out beats anything I've been doing."
"We can just walk for now." He grabbed his keys to the quarters they occupied, and opened the door for Andrew.
That worked.
Andrew moved through the door, waiting for Matthew to lock up after them.
It didn't take long, and a few minutes later they were outside under the sun. Matthew squinted slightly at it, unable to put on sunglasses. "I think refreshments might be in order. Considering."
It was pretty hot outside.
"Have anywhere in mind for that?"
"How about we just walk until we hit someplace."
It wouldn't be far, anyway.
"That works too."
And it would just so happen that the first place they got to... was an ice cream shop.
Matthew stopped and motioned towards the sign.
Andrew raised one eyebrow. He never really figured Matthew as the type.
Though Matthew did seem to get a kick out of doing things that caught him off guard, really.
And ice cream did sound good right about now, even if Andrew normally wasn't big on sweets.
Matthew really wasn't the type. But Vienne liked it, and so... well, he'd gotten used to it. To say the least.
"That a yes?"
"I guess it is." Andrew stopped at the door and pulled it open. "After you."
