so i just got back and the fact that i am taking the time to write this, is insane because i am so fucking tired.

the trip was great. the conference was a let down, but when would i have the chance to see colin powell and al gore speak. they were awesome and i will soon post pics...

but the inauguration:

it seemed as if the whole city planned on going down to the national mall at 3 am, and that is exactly what my roommate and i decided. so we woke up, put on as many layers of clothes our coats allowed us and headed down that 2 mile walk toward the mall. the walk down was even memorable. people of all races and ages and cultures joined together to go see history in the making. military men and women, police and secret service filled the streets, blocking off the roads for pedestrians.

when we got down to the washington monument, it was around 4 and it seemed as if we were part of the first 50 thousand to arrive and take a place. Now we waited. For 8 hours. In 15 degree weather and wind chill.
,
As the mall began to fill, we did the best we could to stay warm. three Lovely girls, i only knew for 2-3 days, ,and i cuddled together trying to sleep or talk to pass the time. it was another 2 1/2 hours before our feet started to feel the cold. at 7:30 the sun began to rise, and they began to play the lincoln memorial concert from the day before on the jumbo trons. And by this time, the mall was filled back to the washington monument.

We waited some more, listening to music from bruce springstein to usher to josh groban to garth brooks. and as mr brooks began to sing, the crowd began to move. and dance. in perfect harmony. we belched out god bless america. we belched out SHOUT. We belched out stevie wonder songs.

You could literally feel the hope. the faith. the pure joy that barack obama was going to become the president of the united states in less than 3 hours. and although you could feel all that...you couldnt feel your feet...or legs or hands.

so we danced some more. got our blood shaking then it began. house of representatives. senators. governors. ex presidents. bush. cheney. the cutest children to enter the white house probably in all of americas history. the first lady elect and then...president elect obama.

it was fucking amazing. and as he was sworn in, we cried with all of america.

there was this black family gathered in front of us. and they brought their mother, who had to be in her 70s. and i will never ever forget the look on her face. just such....there really is no word to describe it. relief, hope, faith, joy, proud, miracle....these words simply just do not describe it.

and after that, the city had new air. fresh air. bush was on his way to bum fuck nowhere and our country has hope. for the first time in a very long time.

even before tuesday, down in the subway, people would randomly just start chanting the word "obama". And walking through town, people shouted from their balconies "WOOO BARACK OBAMA!"

anyway, thats all i have in me for now.

oh and ps:
if you were watching the tv...apparently all the networks silenced their mics....but when bush was announced....the crowd BOOED!

total disrepsect.
but was i apart of that?
you bet your left nut i was!
