do you think sleeping beauty would have used match.com?

Due to sleep just being out of my reach [yet again] and a Sex and the City marathon, it got me thinking.

I remember when I was little, and I'd watch all these movies and tv shows and like most kids I guess, I'd want to live in these fictional worlds where everything was solved and problems resolved at the end of the half hour. But is it crazy to think that a part of me still watches shows and movies and still longs for the simplicity of simulated life? Where everyone realizes their mistakes and you always have the perfect witty line. Because even their problems are perfect somehow. Given, it's because it's written to be that way but presented with a realistic backdrop. But still, even knowing that this isn't reality doesn't stop me from picturing a dramatic comedy life with a good plot line and well written dialog.

But in a sense, we all are probably holding on to a part of that childhood fantasy a little bit. I mean, look at most woman-- don't most of them go their whole lives looking for "prince charming" [see also: "the one" "my soulmate" "the love of my life"]? Isn't that an idea we stole from every disney movie? Isn't that a fictional plot carried into adulthood that we believe could be reality? And if you so choose not to be Sleeping Beauty [or insert any princess name here], are you instantly casted as one of the evil step sisters? In life, if we are all playing a role and we don't choose to be the princess waiting for prince charming, is there still a happily ever after? I mean afterall, you never hear what happens to all of the supporting characters.

So maybe we're all pretending. Maybe we are living our lives by fictional guidelines.
