Clockwatching
Had a discussion with my overseas friends about Chinese food and was reminded of this.
Was in Germany and I met up with my Italian friend who was residing in Germany as a Nintendo translator. Having tried the Chinese food from a restaurant for dinner (some dishes were ridiculously bland and the rest were just soaked in MSG), I casually commented to my friend, "Hey, you guys can't cook Chinese food, this stuff isn't real Chinese food." They smiled, shrugged and we went on our way to tour the city. We chanced upon a pasta outlet somewhere on the Hamburg outskirts and I recognized it (I don't remember what outlet it is) and said that there were similar franchises in Singapore. My friend looked squarely back at me and said, "You guys can't cook Italian food, I bet that stuff isn't real Italian food."
