festival cervantino

i just got back from an exhilarating weekend in guanajuato. this entire month has been the cervantino fest in our lovely state capital. cervantino from cervantes, obviously, is reputed to be the biggest arts festival in the americas. what did i see? not much art, per se, but i did see a hell of a lot of street performance and quixotes.

this being the last weekend kat-kat and i decided to take the hour+ bus ride over to good ol' GTO yesterday around mid-morning. as im sure you all remember i tend to enjoy adventure and a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants approach to life so instead of checking schedules and booking a room months in advance we just jumped on a bus. katia, not a fly-by kind of girl to say the least.

we arrived around 1:30 and instead of taking a taxi into town to find a place to stay (mind you that the last bus back to SMdA was at 7pm, and while sleeping on the street during cervantino does happen its not highly recommended.) we jumped on a city bus headed down-town just like everybody else. we sat in the back, as is our style (in order to facilitate easier access to the bajada), and behind us in the very last row, which happens to be five seats all the way across the back of the buss, sat five town rowdies (who turned out to be very nice music nerds from san luis potosi just tryin to get they groove on). a couple of them were already hammered, but they passed us beer and invited us to spend the weekend with them. which we did. daniel, jorge, pablo, luis, and atila (as in "the hun").

i still dont know how pablo found this woman, but they like us had not planned ahead and so were looking for a place to stay with the locals. we ended up renting out the third floor of this woman's house for 60 pesos a person. awesome. to make a long story short, there was much debauch enjoyed by all. atila and luis were out of control and ate hotdogs off the ground. atila also ended up balling like "a little bitch" and then pissing himself. all and all an excellent two days and a night, which i hope was enough to convince kat-kat that spontaneity isnt really all that bad.

ok, im running up on the hour mark at the cybercafe so ive got to run. but heads up, after being invited to SLP and Oaxaca (atila´s home) i felt like i should extend an invite for the boys to come to sa-town over christmas. we'll see what happens...
