30 Day Meme - Day 4

Jan 25, 2010 22:57

(What do you mean I've missed 3 days?! I have not! I just took a three-day vacay in a time-elapsed wormhole. I'm back on Earf now. Same place as I was, too, which kinda sucks.

(Okay. Really? Friday, I had to go to bed early. Saturday, I didn't get to bed early; I was too tired to Tweet, let alone LJ. Sunday, I was catching up on reading I had tossed aside on Saturday. And, I discovered the DailyKos. Damn, I could read articles from that site all damn day.))

Confession time. I'm not much of a book reader. Especially fiction. It's not that I don't want to read books, it's just difficult to get me to sit still for that reason. Don't get me wrong - I still read. My reading list is just comprised of news articles, op-eds, fanfiction, and the like.

I AM trying to rectify this, however. Mom is letting me use her library card, which has a substantially smaller late fee. My local library has a pretty big Political Non-fiction section~.

That being said, my answer to this meme came to me almost immediately. Okay, so it took, like, a day of thinking. Details, details.

My favorite book (series) is the Silverwing Trilogy by Kenneth Oppel.

(When I searched for these images, I found another book - Darkwing? Never read it. Now I REALLY want to. Hell, I think I might re-read the entire series. I miss having my imagination filled with these adorable fuckers.)

YES, THE MAIN CHARACTER IS A BAT. It's one of the things that drew me to Silverwing in the first place. I was pretty critter-crazy when I was a little kid. My classmates were a little creeped out when I announced this is what I was reading. My teacher was, too, but she was also a little impressed. It was a book she had never heard of. That was one of the reasons I loved this series - I picked it out. Silverwing was the first "real book" I decided to read on my own. It wasn't on any of the school's required/recommended reading lists.

It was also significant that I refused to watch the animated adaptation of the first book, as to preserve the image of the characters I had already created.

If you don't mind reading a YA series, I highly recommend this one. The stories are wonderful and adventurous, the "romance" isn't too 'in your face' (a plus for me), and the last book made me cry like a little bitch. In a good way.

O HAI, HOOVERISM! U WANNA SEND US SPIRALING DOWN THE ECONOMIC SHITTER? K, JUS WAIT TIL 2011 SO MOM 'N I CAN GTFO. THX.

wat, 30 day meme
