my phone, Robert Downey Jr, and that time the cop showed up here: would that these were all related

Okay. First things first. Who's been teaching my phone new words? As of today, it keeps inserting "anus" and "Ikea" into the text messages I've attempted. God. This phone. Anus and Ikea? 'FESS UP, BITCHES. Who's been pulling modern Scandinavian furniture out of their butts with my phone ( Read more... )

He seems to have sincerely come out the other side of his addictions now -- for real this time -- and it shows with the new depth he has. He's always had the spark, but it wasn't until this particular comeback that the spark finally turned into a full-fledged conflagration. Plus, he's just one of those guys who knows where the punchline goes which is part of what sold me so completely on his Tony Stark. Oh my god. The man manages to have adorable on-screen chemistry with his robotic lab equipment, for crying out loud.

I love that Tony Stark winds up the perfect mirror image of Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne. Brilliant billionaires with crime fighting alter-egos, except Stark's celebrating in the spotlight while Wayne is, you know, completely psychotic. I will undoubtedly start searching for fic featuring RDJ's Stark and Bale's Wayne dealing with each other because Stark actually is the guy Wayne pretends to be in the public eye. His relentless good cheer and gleefully ostentatious ways would be such a delight to inflict on both Wayne and the Batman.

Like, even if he didn't know Bruce was the Batman, he'd happily crack a joke to Batman about how the Batmobile (whatever they called it in the new flicks) could be really sexed up if they just rattlecan a flame job on its sides. Hell, he would be the one to happily coin the term "Batmobile" and likely earn a single eyetwitch from Batman, never realizing the near-death experience he'd just had. Oh, such happy thoughts. All down to RDJ.

If you haven't seen KKBB, it's absolutely worth your time. He is ridiculously adorable in that flick. He was newly (and actually) sober at that point and he brought such a sweet, funny, endearing vulnerability to the role. Life had taken its toll at that point and he let it show, although he was just so cute while he did so. Harry was nothing like Tony Stark beyond having RDJ's impeccable comedic timing. Very worth your time. Srsly.

Until you find some good Ironman/Batman crossover, here have some Ironman/Spiderman Basingstoke's Paparazzo. It's awesome.

Iron Man was the movie that convinced me to find RDJ attractive, and that was before I saw a few production stills of him in Edwardian gear from his upcoming Sherlock Holmes flick.

I had my doubts about him as Holmes until I watched IM, KKBB, and some of his interview clips. I think he'll be able to sell me on being Holmes and, happily, look really hot while he's doing so.

I realized that I'd avoided IM partly because Tom Cruise had at some point been determined to be Tony Stark. I wrote off wanting to see the flick at that point and didn't bother caring when RDJ finally got signed. My bad there, that's for sure. His Tony was fantastic -- I really hope the sequel is another good vehicle for RDJ.
