Today I went out to harvest some eggplants and found that two of the fruits had holes eaten into them. One of them had a freaking CAVE with two entrances. I don't know what ate those fruits, but I did see some mealybugs on the plants themselves. Tomorrow I will get out there and spray them down with orange oil, followed by garlic-pepper spray.
The fruits were freshly nibbled and looked fine otherwise, so I cut off the nibble ends and roasted the fruits anyway. I will finish making soup with them tomorrow.
It feels really great to wash eggplants from my own garden and know that all I have to do is rinse them, because there are no pesticides on them.
The plant itself is huge, I will take a picture before I cut it back. It is shading out my thyme and chives, so tomorrow is probably clipping day.
