Here's the latest on keeping the turtles cool.
Rex is doing okay with the daily ice. Early in the afternoon, when things heat up, I give him a block of ice wrapped in a towel. I place it near or on top of him, where ever he is buried. He can move away from it if he wants, but usually he sticks close to take advantage of the cooling.
It is just too hot to cool the pond, even with ice bottles, so I've given up on them. I bring Al inside early in the afternoon and keep him inside until dark. Soon we will have a shade structure and this won't be such an issue. The pond will get up to the ambient temp, and the ice bottles will probably be enough to keep it cool.
