death in one corner leaves a space in the other. [private thread]

[putting the pencil aside, Light re-reads the note; despite his somewhat shaky handwriting, it's clearly intelligible.

Hey L. If you wake up and I'm gone, don't freak out. I'm fine. I've gone to visit Mello - our Mello. I've written directions from my room to his on the back of this page. Promise I won't die on my way; not sure when I'll be back, depending on how difficult Mello is.

Beneath that short paragraph, there is a now-illegible line, just a faint indentation after his vigorous erasing. The letters 'I', 'ov' and 'ou' could perhaps be made out. The sentence was, Light thought, stupid, extraneous, sentimental - he isn't going to die while he's out. Putting that in was unnecessary. Checking the directions on the back of the page for good measure, he gets to his feet and hobbles over to his bed, placing the sheet on the pillow. Then he takes his crutch and sets off.

The walk seems interminably long, and he stumbles a few times, but finally draws up to Mello's door, raising his fist and knocking sharply.]
