Drabble!

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing/s: Gibbs/Kate
A quote that HAS to be used: Can’t live without you & marry me, Kate.

I decided to do a two-in one because it's for the same author, for a start, and also because the way I was writing the drabble was heading towards the second quote. And as compensation, the drabble is about as long as two regular drabbles. Enjoy! ♥

Can't live without you (marry me, Kate)

“Flight EU8740 to Paris is boarding now, I repeat, flight EU8740 to Paris is boarding now…”

Kate grabbed her carry-on luggage, and made her way towards the gate where the tickets were being checked. It was her first time to Paris, and she was excited.

The trip was not a holiday, though. Kate reminded herself of that as she reached into her bag and rummaged around with her free hand for her ticket. She had asked Director Morrow for a transfer, and had been granted it immediately. The Paris-based NCIS team had suffered the loss of their profiler, and Kate had all the right qualifications.

Plus, a reason to escape Washington. Now Kate understood the reason for Gibbs’ infamous ‘Rule 12’. Never date a co-worker. Well, Kate had broken Rule 12, and the end result had been disastrous. Going into work everyday and facing him after that - it wasn’t something she could bear. Hence the reason for the transfer.

The line was a long one. Apparently there were a lot of people travelling to Paris at 0700. As she looked at her ticket, a sickening thought came to her.

She did not have her passport.

Kate swore under her breath, and left the line. She walked over to where she had been sitting, and started looking around for it. She couldn’t see it anywhere. She was about to give up, when a voice interrupted her thoughts. “Lost something?”

She looked up, and held her breath. It was him. “Why are you here?” She asked him.

He shrugged, and held out her passport to her. “You left this here.” He said. “Someone might have taken it.” Kate snatched it out of his hand, and turned away from him. Without uttering so much as a ‘thank you’, she headed back toward the line. He followed her, and stopped her by putting a hand on her arm. “Kate,” He said. “Don’t go. This is silly.”

She turned to him. “Is it, Jethro?” She asked angrily. “Is it really? After two years of dating, the aspect of marriage - or perhaps even the word - might have crossed your mind. At least once.”

“It has.” He said firmly. “I just wasn’t sure-”

“If I was thinking about the same thing? Jethro, every girl, no matter what age, thinks about marrying their dream man. Well, finally, mine has come along, and he hasn’t thought twice about it.” She looked away from him. “I can’t take it anymore. I have to end this.”

“No, you don’t.” Gibbs said firmly. “Kate, I can’t live without you. I don’t want to imagine life without you. Stay here, with me.”

Kate shook her head, tears forming in her eyes. “Jethro, you really hurt me.” She whispered. “That sort of thing doesn’t just go away overnight. I can understand why you were so reluctant to bring up marriage, but…” She trailed off, unable to think of a way to finish what she said.

“Kate,” Gibbs said, taking her hands in his. “I will do what I can to make this work. I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”

“I love you too, Jethro.” She said sadly. “But I need some time to think.” She held up her ticket, and smiled slightly. “It’s a return ticket. I’ll be back on Thursday night.”

“But-”

Kate tilted her head to the side. “I was not entirely sure if I was going to take the Paris position.” She said glumly. “I mean, originally, I was going to, but when I found out that I was pregnant, I decided to fly over there myself and decline the position.” She looked completely miserable by then. “And perhaps do some shopping for the baby.”

Gibbs’ eyes widened. “When did you find out?”

“Yesterday.” She said, looking at her feet.

Gibbs cupped her chin, and she looked up at him. “Marry me, Kate.” He said firmly. “Marry me, and I will make you the happiest woman in the world.”

Kate blinked, and everything she was previously feeling - all the anger, and regret - melted away. Gibbs looked at her questioningly, and she eventually smiled. “Okay.” Her smile was quickly replaced by a frown, and she started crying.

“Kate?” Gibbs questioned, pulling her into a hug. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” She cried into his chest. “I’m so happy, that’s all.”

“Then why are you crying?”

“It’s the hormones,” She moaned, and Gibbs chuckled. “I’ve been like this all week.” He laughed harder, and Kate looked up at him, glaring. “Are you laughing at me?” She demanded, slapping his chest.

“No, not at all.” Gibbs chuckled. He wiped her tears away, and took her bags. “Shall we go?” He asked her. Kate smiled at him, and nodded.

“Sounds perfect.”
