Where to start with these parts... first there was the Niou-family hike, which I'm sure I've told you before just feels so totally like Japan to me... every detail is just /right/. It's one of the things you're so very good at. Then, the Sanada/Atobe match. I love every subtle reference to Sanada's moves, to the tension between them, all of it. In addition to writing gritty, real teenage boys and beautiful, vivid, sometimes gross Japan, you also do a wonderful job with these matches. They have just enough description to be powerful and detailed, without slowing down the story.
Anyway... then there was the other stuff. ^__^ I'm getting nervous because I feel like Niou isn't... being active. /He/ knows how much he wants Yagyuu, but he's not always being demonstrative about it... and I worry that Yagyuu may have the same doubts that Niou has. Yes... I'm going off to read more now, sorry to keep spamming you.
Of course, Niou family hikes in Japan are based on my own experiences hiking there! So much mud, and humidity. And sweat. Ugh, no wonder Niou is not a fan.
I'm glad you enjoyed the Sanada/Atobe match! It was difficult to write, and I had to keep going back to the manga to check information and dialogue and just...everything. But if it turned out, then it was worth it :)
It must be hard for Niou to be demonstrative in the way you suggest--since, after all, he's been rejected once and it looms in his mind constantly, as well as the fact he's well aware that Yagyuu has ample amounts of girls around that he could be with instead. And for a first-time relationship, he's unsure and young. And Yagyuu is awful to read and all over the place, which makes things worse. Poor, poor Niou. He needs Yagyuu to say outright to him, "I like you. I want to date you."
