Wow, time flies when stuff is going on! I haven't been on line much in the past year because we didn't have internet, and there were other things to do online the brief times I was on at Books-a-million, plus our neighbor didn't have a password on their wifi and we'd sneak on their sometimes. But now my dad is at the point we have to live with him, so we broke down and got internet there.
I practically forgot about LJ because I got hooked on Facebook. So much instant gratification with the "Like" button, instant comments and such. But the text restrictions reminded me that FB isn't to journal, chronicle, or reminisce. It to do a "drive by," say something and go. It is geared to the "busy" and only concerned with up to the minute updates. I'm sure if there could be a ticker-tape scroll bar at the bottom, even MORE unimportant minute data could be effortlessly spew forth.
Not there is anything wrong with a quick "my grandma's in the hospital" or some funny - albeit quick - story or observation. However, do I really need to know that someone is at IHOP or Denny's - at that moment. I'm sure if I wanted to burgle, that would be important information. But as such, I could care less. I'm still surprised someone doesn't say, "I'm going to take a piss." Well, I'm sure someone has at some time, with more horrific T.M.I.
I digress. Journaling is more prolific. But is there an audience, or is it just for me? If there is an audience, does it matter if I am read, or if I know that I am read? Sometimes there is instant gratification, but mostly nothing.
But why do I want to write where someone reads it? I do enjoy going back in time to my musings and anecdotes - especially with a failing memory.LOL Alas, only great writers are read or quoted once one passes. So, with that, I will never know if I'm a great writer.
