[EcM] August - Into Dust

Aug 30, 2007 16:04

Still falling
Breathless and on again
Inside today
Beside me today
Around broken in two
till you eyes shed
Into dust
Like two strangers
Turning into dust
till my hand shook with the way I fear

I could possibly be fading
Or have something more to gain
I could feel myself growing colder
I could feel myself under your fate
Under your fate

It was you breathless and tall
I could feel my eyes turning into dust
And two strangers turning into dust
Turning into dust

It's with curiosity that she stares at the films on the light box. The damage seen, and the facts that are given to her... it seems all so impossible. It sparks something in her that she hadn't felt in so long... to be needed. It's as flattering as it is terrifying, because she knows she's not what they need. All the years of telling her she's not good enough, that she's just a shadow in the bright spotlight of her ex-husband. Her fingers come near a shake as the reality of her situation hits her hard.

She can't do this. It's no longer a matter of wanting it or needing to be able to do this on her own... it's just a matter of knowing deep down... that she can't do it.

***

Standing on the sidewalk she's almost appalled that it happened right before her eyes. Her hands near a tremble just in a moment of pure panic and doubt. Things like this don't happen to her, and they most certainly shouldn't be happening in front of her... in front of the world around her. Her stomach turns for a moment, thinking of the body... of the force of impact. The medical training she has floods into her mind, telling her exactly what his body is going through... went through.

In a single moment though... she's free. Free of his doubts, his negativity... free of it all and yet she's never felt so trapped before. It's amazing how much the rush of freedom can weigh down one soul that's been waiting for so long.

***

Her tears have been falling for some time now, and she's not sure if she's weeping for the loss of a life... or for the freedom she's going to have. All she can feel for sure is the slight weakness in her knees that forces her palms to press harder to the cool steel in the morgue, and the ache in her chest that tells her that it is all really happening.

When she sees Richard again... it's a shock. When she lets two things connect in her mind... it's a scary moment of fate, and a heavy dose of reality.

***

When another one dies, Juliet wonders if her ex-husband was right all those months ago. If she really was nothing more than a doctor that relied on the facts and science to come through in the end. She doesn't want to believe that she doesn't have the talent, but they've all died...

She asks to leave. She's made to stay.

This is freedom. This is fate.

***

As time passes she allows the island to change her. Shuts herself off from emotions that could let her be tethered to the island. She can't show those moments where she wishes she could just disappear into the light and leave it all behind. Juliet has to be stronger than she's ever been, and she has to do it while watching them all die around her. She adapts, and she lives a life that they would expect her to live. Follows their rules, loves one of Their men, and practices their medicine. It is all part of a plan that she's not even sure exists anymore, but all she can do is hope that it will actually work one day, and she'll have a real taste of freedom.

***

A glimpse into the life she's missing out on. It's a moment of weakness that Ben knows she can't afford. The pain in her chest returns, but it's sorrow and heartfelt as she watches her sister on the monitors. The tears streak down her face and she sobs desperately begging for her freedom. It's one womans life that she's asking for... her own.

As she grabs at Mikhail trying to get him to turn it back on... she knows that she'd rather fade into dust than fall into the light.

She'd rather die... than stay here.

She'd do anything... anything she had to...

***

Leaving the messages she knows it's not right. She's watched too many of them die, and she's had to sail so many of them off. It's not even a testament to science anymore, it's a cruel joke played on her. Never to see that moment of joy when a mother is handed their child... never seeing her sister give birth... never knowing what her sister even knows about her.

That night she goes to Jack.

That night she puts her plan into action.

That night Juliet proves her worth... to herself.
