This was meant to be normal. Some level of reality brought into a small slice of the world that was far from real to most people that stepped foot onto its ground. To show up onto the island, to be brought there, it was life changing. You could love it or hate it, but regardless of how you felt about it, it did its fair share of changing lives. Planes crashed, ships were wrecked onto its shores and through it all you looked for something that made it real. Something that reminded you of home, in a way that made you almost think that this place could be home, if you'd just allow it.
He'd come willingly, after they had taken him of course, but to Ben it was progress. It was less of a tug upon a leash forward, jerking him into the compound and more of a letting the leash drop. There was no doubt in Juliet's mind that this was not a complete freedom, there was no way that Ben would allow that level of risk. People had their purposes, their duties to fulfill to the island, to Jacob, to him, and Jack was now one of the people that Ben had collected for himself. Once, Juliet had thought that this place was her chance to be recognized, now she just wanted to be forgotten.
It was more difficult now though, seeing how easy it had been for Jack to just settle in. To take things for granted and to allow himself to join their small village. In a way it almost reminded her of the stories, where villages waited for a doctor to come and prepared a house for them to live in, giving them the best of everything they had to offer.
They had a doctor though.
She just wasn't good enough.
Now he was playing football in the yard. It was hard not to just watch and want this to be the real world. To think that she could just walk over there and invite him to dinner. That she could easily take part in a sport she really knew very little about and forget that Ben was watching. But, he was. Even if she couldn't see him, Juliet was very aware that they were all being watched.
Even a simple game of football was some sort of tactic, some way for him to measure out just what they all were thinking. All Juliet was thinking was that if she knew the first thing about how to play football, she'd actually join them.
Watching, though, wasn't that bad.
