[Xion had honestly never baked a cake before, so getting one ready for Axel's "birthday" was a bit of a challenge. She considered buying the mix from the store, but that wasn't very personal, was it? So she found a recipe for a butter cake and some buttercream frosting -- Axel's favorite, she remembered. It was something about the salty-sweet that he liked, he'd told her while they'd been discussing what they did and didn't like about certain cakes. Xion had never actually gotten to taste a lot of cakes (butter being one of them), so it had mostly been Axel describing them, and Xion adding bits from her limited experience. It had been decided she needed to eat more cake, but that could happen later.

Well, she was trying a new one today. The batter itself tasted fine -- a little salty, but otherwise cake-like. While the cake bakes, Xion makes the frosting. She ends up having to do this twice, because the first time it had the consistency of a particularly thick soup, rather than actual frosting. After a few adjustments, she gets it to a proper frosting-like substance, and, also like the cake, it's sweet and a ever so slightly salty.

She decides she likes it.

For fun, she makes a couple more, smaller portions of the frosting and adds food coloring to it, some red and a dab of blue.

The cake comes out seemingly done, without any kind of burning, much to her delight. She gets it from the pan and onto a plate -- however, some of the cake decided to stay behind, and she had to get it off and try and put it back onto the rest of the cake without it looking too...disheveled. As it were, it just ended up slightly lopsided.

Next came the issue of putting the frosting onto the cake. She has trouble with it, thanks to the portion of the cake that wasn't connected to the rest of it, and after wrestling with it, she manages to keep it stuck in place with a bit of extra frosting. When the dessert is finally smothered in the frosting, it isn't pretty, but it's frosted and looks edible.

For the final touches, she takes a second knife, and uses it to spread the red frosting onto the cake in the shape of letters. These try to blend in with the rest of the buttercream disaster, but they end up resembling words.

"Happy Birthday, Axel."

The last of the frosting, the blue, is used to make a small rectangle, in what she hopes could be identified as a bar of seasalt ice cream.

It could also just be confused for a...blob.

By the time the cake is completely finished, Xion has frosting and bits of ingredients on her clothes and in her hair, but the cake is presentable enough to be called a cake.

Sighing with relief, she wipes her hands on a dishrag and goes to find her SFC.

Come home when you can please.

Xion sets the device aside, and plops down onto the couch with an exhausted little huff.]
