[Background] Luke fon Fabre once thought he was the only son of Duke Crimson Fabre and Lady Susanne Fabre of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear. Though seventeen years old, the boy had no recollection of his first ten years of life. This amnesia was chalked up to trauma caused by a kidnapping the boy experienced when he was ten. When brought back to the manor safe and unhurt, Luke could not remember how to speak, walk, eat, or basically function like a regular person. In all essence he was like a newborn. Crimson and Susanne were so relieved to have their son back, however, that they didn’t question the complete memory loss and set to re-teaching the child everything he needed to function. With his parents so busy, Luke was left in the care of the maids and a servant by the name of Guy Cecil.

Growing up, Luke was waited on hand and foot. He wasn’t allowed outside of his home, being told this was for his own safety, and often suffered from random headaches and hallucinations of a weird voice. Thanks to these circumstances, Luke would grow up a rather spoiled, selfish, and arrogant young man. He got everything he wanted, except his freedom, and was allowed to treat the house staff just about any way he wanted. But thanks to not being able to go outside, and his days growing boring and monotonous, Luke soon became very listless and dreamed of the day he would turn 20 and be able to leave the manor as an adult. The only things that kept Luke from going completely mad with boredom were his best friend and servant, Guy, and the sword lessons he received routinely from Commandant Van Grants. Luke basically worshipped Van as a hero and did everything the man told him to. This was in part because Van was the only person Luke felt took him seriously, and who praised or scolded him.

One day, during one of Luke’s sword practices, a mysterious girl showed up and attacked Van. Luke became angry and attacked the girl. When they touched, a strange resonance occurred between them and they were transported from the manor to the enemy nation of Malkuth. Waking up in a place called Tataroo Valley, the girl introduces herself as Tear and says she will attempt to bring Luke home. The two don’t know, however, that they have traveled to a new country, so when they find a coach and ask to head to the capital, they have no idea they are heading to the capital of Malkuth. The coach never makes it to Grand Chokmah, as it is caught between a military land ship and a group of escaping criminals. Learning they are in Malkuth, Luke and Tear decide to walk to a nearby town to rest before setting off for Kimlasca again.

The story from here is long and intricate, so I’ll try and sum things up about Luke in general. When they head to Engeve, it becomes pretty apparent that Luke has no idea how to function in regular society. He doesn’t know how to pay for things; he treats commoners as if they are beneath him, and is pretty much a rude, arrogant jerk. He gets accused of being a thief at one point, which is where he meets Jade, Anise, and Fon Master Ion for the first time, and even though he is let of the hook he still holds a grudge against the real thieves, creatures called cheagles. Rushing off to the Cheagle Woods to soothe his bruised ego, Luke runs into a sickly looking Ion and decides to take the kid along, knowing he’ll just come back later if they send him away. Luke also decides to protect Ion, just to make sure the kid doesn’t die. When they figure out why the cheagles are stealing food, and Mieu joins them, Luke abuses the heck out the small creature, simply because he thinks he’s annoying. However, we do see Luke’s softer side at this point too, when Tear, Jade, and Luke have to kill the Liger Queen and destroy her eggs, Luke pities them and wonders why they had to resort to killing at all. Tear calls him soft.

Jade eventually arrests Luke and Tear for entering Malkuth illegally, but after learning Luke’s status in Kimlasca, decides to ask for his assistance in stopping a war between Malkuth and Kimlasca. Luke reluctantly agrees just in time for the Tartarus to be ambushed by the bad guys. Jade, Luke, and Tear work together to shut down the Tartarus and take it back from the Six God Generals, and when they finally manage to shut it down, Guy comes into the picture, having been looking for Luke under Duke Fabre’s orders. Once Luke’s group is able to escape, they make their way to St. Binah to pick up Anise, who fell off the Tartarus during the battle, and then make their way to Kimalsca. They hit a few bumps and detours along the way, such as Choral Castle and having to stop in Chesadonia, but they do finally make it back to Kimlasca with Van’s help. During this entire time, Luke seems to waffle between arrogant and somewhat willing to learn about the world.

Luke learns along the way home that the reason he was locked up was not only for his safety, but really to be used as a weapon by Kimlasca. Luke has the ability to cause a hyperresonance on his own, an ability only he possesses, which can destroy or create any matter in the world. Luke is horrified by this realization, and refuses to be used as a weapon, whereupon Van tells him that if he averts the war, he’ll be considered a hero, and will finally be set free. Luke listens to Van, just as he always does, and has the idea of being a hero in mind when he gets home. When Luke is told by the king and his father to go to Akzeriuth as an ambassador to save the people from poisonous miasma, he listens, thinking this is his opportunity to become a hero. The group he was traveling with before tags along, now containing Princess Natalia, and they head for Akzeriuth. But this isn’t before Van takes Luke aside and shares a plan with him, telling him how to neutralize the miasma in Akzeriuth instead of just leading the people away from the city. Van convinces him this is way to avert the Score foretelling Akzeriuth’s destruction, and that he will save everyone instead. Luke obeys like a puppy.

While on the way to Akzeriuth, Luke gets his first real glimpse at Asch the Bloody, one of the six God Generals. Asch looks exactly like Luke, and this frightens the boy so much he actually throws up. He also learns there’s a mental connection between Asch and him, allowing Asch to control Luke at will. Luke stubbornly tries to resist and this often leads to him passing out. Yay, another voice in Luke’s head. When they finally get to Akzeriuth, Luke acts like a complete jerk and refuses to help in caring for the sick or moving people around. He simply wants to find Van and carry out the plan to be a hero. So as everyone else rushes off to perform certain duties, Luke takes Ion with him and goes to Van. Once they find him, they head down to Akzeriuth’s passage ring and Van reveals his true colors. Using a hypnotic suggestion he planted in Luke’s mind, Van unleashes Luke’s power and destroys Akzeriuth’s support system. The city collapses and falls into Auldrant’s Qliphoth, where it sinks below the mud and sludge, killing everyone in the city, save our heroes. Now having murdered countless people by accident, Luke seeks a way to escape the blame, trying to pass everything off onto Van and run away from what he did. Seriously disappointed in Luke’s behavior, his friends abandon him. Asch also shows up and reveals the truth about Luke.

Luke is a replica of Asch, who is the real Luke fon Fabre who was kidnapped seven years ago. Luke can’t cope with this realization, and after charging Asch in a rage and losing, falls into a coma. Luke’s consciousness then looks through Asch’s eyes as everyone but Tear follows Asch to the Outer Lands again, in order to find out what exactly happened to Akzeriuth, and about what Van is planning. Guy ends up leaving the group not too long later, claiming that Luke is his true friend, and heads back to get him. Meanwhile, Luke wakes up for real this time and resolves to change himself. He makes a vow in front of Tear to become a different person, and slices off his long red hair as a symbol of that change. With Tear in tow, Luke heads away from the Qliphoth, meets up with Guy and his new journey turns to stopping the outer lands from falling.

This part of the story goes on forever, so it’s simple to say that Luke meets up with everyone again, shows them he’s going to change, and then runs around the world for a really long time trying to keep the outer lands from suffering the same fate as Akzeriuth. This involves a lot of political talk, a war breaking out, resetting Sephiroth trees and support systems, running to various towns to ask for aid, acquiring a flying machine, and tons of other stuff. During this time, Luke is so focused on trying to save people that he really has no time to dwell on his being a replica or what he did in Akzeiruth, even though he feels so guilty he wants to die. The group finally learns what Van’s whole plan is, which is to drop the Outer Lands into the Qliphoth, kill everyone, and make a replica land that doesn’t rely on the Score. After finally messing with the Sephiroth trees enough and getting the kingdoms to stop their wars, Luke and the gang go after Van for what they think is the final battle.

When they see him again, Luke asks Van why he made him. Van tells him Luke’s only purpose for being born was as a pawn to die in Akzeriuth in Asch’s place. Other than that he really has no other reason o exist. This majorly damages any confidence Luke had left, and even though they manage to defeat Van, in the month that follows Van’s death, Luke wallows in self pity and wonders about his own self worth. He wonders if he should have ever been born.

But of course Van isn’t actually dead. So Luke, Jade, Tear, Guy, Anise, and Natalia all meet up to run around fixing things again. Van and the six God Generals are still kicking, even though Asch is really no longer helping them and is running around actually helping Luke’s gang. He was the one who helped Luke lower the Outer Lands into the Qliphoth safely after all. The other problem is the miasma coming back to pretty much be a pain in the ass for all of Auldrant. Seeking a way to get rid of it, Jade proposes a plan… one that would involve killing 10,000 replicas, along with either Luke or Asch. At first the this plan is set aside and not even mentioned to anyone but Luke himself. Looking for more answers, Ion goes to read the Score for Luke to give him some guidance, and ends up passing away in the quest. Saddened by Ion’s death, the group is forced to keep searching, and finally settle on Jade’s original plan. Asch seems pretty gung ho to die at this point, but Luke decides that the original is more powerful than the replica and decides to die in Asch’s place. Everyone tries to stop him, but Luke resolves himself to his death, wondering if this was his purpose to begin with. This is an important part because it truly shows how much Luke has changed. He’s willing to die to save people, and he’s not even thinking of being a hero at this point. Also, it shows how important he is or has become to certain people. Guy begs him not to do it, Tear tells him that if he dies she’ll never forgive him, and even Jade tells him that as Luke’s friend he doesn’t want Luke to die. It’s an incredibly emotional chunk of the game.

When faced with his demise at the Tower of Rem, Luke realizes how badly he actually wants to live. Even if he doesn’t know his purpose, he is sure he doesn’t want to die. Asch helps him out in neutralizing the miasma, and the replicas all perish, save for Luke. Wondering how he survived, Luke is taken to Belkend, where he finds out he is only living on borrowed time. His cells and fonons will soon fade, and that will be the end. Luke lies to his companions about being okay, though Jade deduces for himself very quickly that Luke’s lying, and they continue on their way. They now have to stop Van and free Lorelei, who Van trapped in his own body, and basically do the whole save the planet thing all over again.

During the final parts of the game, Luke has a final showdown with Asch and wins, showing Asch his resolve to live as himself, and Asch hands over the key of Lorelei so Luke can go stop Van. Asch is left to fight by himself and subsequently dies, giving his power over to Luke, who can now use second order hyperresonance (which basically is just a really KICK ASS version of the original). Luke uses this power in the final fight with Van, successfully killing his former master and saving the world. Staying behind to free Lorelei, Luke says his final goodbyes to his friends and knows his end has come. Even though he promises Tear and Guy he’ll make it back, Luke doesn’t actually know if he can keep that promise. With Asch’s body in his arms, Luke frees Lorelei, and quietly fades from existence.

[Personality] Luke’s personality is something that goes through a lot of changes in the game. When the story starts, he’s selfish, arrogant, needy, and just an all around jerk. Underneath it all he IS a good kid, but layers of spoiled, pampered brat cover this. There is also the fact that Luke did not receive a lot of attention from his parents as a boy, and most of his praise and self confidence came from the attention of his best friend, Guy, and his sword instructor/mentor Van Grants. Luke would do anything Van asked, even if it seemed sketchy. Luke also took Guy for granted, as the man was always there for him, while he had an almost superhero complex for Van. Van would swoop in and teach him all sorts of cool things, then leave… leaving Luke wanting more and more attention from him.

Ignorant of the world, and not all that eager to learn new things, Luke is annoying and egotistical. The people he meets at the beginning of his journey are put off by his attitude and though they try to be patient with him, tend to tell him off after a while. Luke takes criticism poorly and reacts like a child when told he is doing something wrong. But it is very important to note that Luke doesn’t remember the first ten years of his life supposedly, and in actuality has only been alive for seven years, therefore has a kid-like way of dealing with his emotions and the world. He is a kid. Underneath his proud exterior is just a frightened little boy who is craving the attention and love of others, especially the person he looks up to most. Van.

After the fall of Akzeriuth and Van’s betrayal, Luke’s personality does a 180. Instead of refusing to take advice and ignoring the plights of others, he suddenly asks his friends to help him change, and goes out of his way to fix the problems of others. Luke at this point has also learned he is a replica and his helpfulness might also stem from a desire to be accepted as a regular human being and not be looked at differently. Born in the body of a ten year old, but with a clean slate for a mind, Luke’s personality has only had seven years to develop. It is no surprise he has a hard time accepting things and is emotional over things.

Despite everything, Luke is a good and determined individual. He can get down on himself and belittle his existence to no end, but if someone’s in trouble he will jump to the rescue. He is reckless to a fault, and is not one to value his own life over others. Probably due to the fall of Akzeriuth and the hundreds of people he killed in the process, Luke is willing to die several times in the game to set things right. Even though his friends scold him for such thinking, Luke is constantly trying to find himself, and just wonders why he is really alive.

By the end of the story, however, Luke’s confidence does spike, especially after the Tower of Rem where he actually is forced to face his mortality. Realizing that there is no real purpose to living other than the ones you make for yourself, Luke pushes onward, knowing his death is imminent. He faces his demons and his original in a one on one sword fight, and wins. Taking these victories with him, Luke bravely faces the last fight and his own demise.

All in all, Luke is a kind hearted boy with a lot going on. He has an attitude and isn’t afraid to show it, but can get depressed easily if things look bad. He needs support from others to keep his focus, and usually has a hard time functioning on his own. Though he CAN do it. Luke has a vast capacity to love and be loved. All of his friends are important to him, along with his parents, Asch, the maids in his home, his uncle, Natalia, and even to some extent, he still respects Van. Sure, people get annoyed with Luke, but they can also see he has a good heart and is willing to try to understand and learn. He’s not dumb, he’s just naïve, and if his hyperresonance lessons with Tear were any indication, he is actually a quick learner. He just needs the right motivation to get somewhere.

If given the right attention, Luke will become a very inspiring adult.

[Specialties/Abilities] Luke is an impressive swordsman who is skilled in the Albert style of fighting. He has a variety of sword artes he can use, and he’s not afraid to use his fists and feet in a battle either. He is pretty strong and muscular, even if he’s not that tall.

Luke can’t use magic, but he can use fields of fonons to enhance his attacks just like everyone else. Also, he has his hyperresonance. It isn’t unique to him because Asch can do it too and his is more powerful, but Luke’s ability is nothing to sneeze at. He did destroy Akzeriuth after all.

[Affection] Luke isn't very touchy feely, but he doesn't mind simple hands on the shoulder or on the hair as a sign of endearment. He's not a hugger, or anything, he'll go with a firm handshake with men most often and only hugs girls if he's excited about something.

Pretty much with Luke, anything goes, but more loving stuff like lip kisses, ask me first. I'll do the same for you.

[Fighting] People are more than welcome to fight Luke, though I don't know how well they'll injure or kill him. The boy could blow them up for God's sake, and he's also a very, very good swordsman.

Don't underestimate him because he's young. If he's going to get into a fight we can discuss what will happen!

[Other Facts] Nothing really. x3
