Arms Hotel, Presidential Suite, Saturday, Brunchtime

Oct 20, 2007 13:43

Peter arrived soon after the handwavily ordered room service meal got to the suite that Angela and Nathan were using as their home away from home. He hugged Nathan, gave Angela a hug and kiss, then sat down to eat.

"You two sleep okay?" Peter asked. He reached over to snag a piece of bacon with his fingers. Nathan automatically swatted Peter's hand away without having to look. Almost as though he was used to this kind of thing from Peter since, well, yes.

"Perfectly fine, dear," Angela told him. "Stop slouching."

Peter sighed and sat up. "Have fun yesterday?"

"Your pal Dean is a real peach," Nathan said.

"Sam's brother?" Peter frowned, wondering why Nathan wouldn't like him. "He's a great guy. Him and Sam both. Their dad's the guy I TA for." He added this for the benefit of how saying "I'm a TA" made him look good.

"I ran into Isabel," Angela said as she spread butter over a piece of toast. "She seems very forward-thinking with her goals in life."

Peter and Nathan shared a look. "Uh... yeah. She's a good friend. She's really been helping me learn." Which was true. Only it was learning about his powers so not exactly something he'd elaborate on in front of his mother.

"Going to give us the tour today, Pete?" Nathan asked, smoothly changing the subject.

"Absolutely," Peter said. "I can show you my room, introduce you to more of my friends. There's Mac, and this one girl Cl - "

"You boys have fun," Angela said.

Now the brothers shared a worried look.

"Not joining us, Ma?" Nathan asked.

"You should spend more time together," Angela told them. "Besides, I'm sure your teachers will feel more comfortable talking with me privately."

Peter felt his stomach sink. His teachers. All two of them. One of whom was Ares. "Uh - I know Mr. Winchester will be having office hours."

"And the others?" Angela asked. She went to pour herself some more orange juice.

When their mother's back was turned, Peter shot Nathan a pleading look to ask for help. Nathan gave him a questioning look in return. To which Peter gave him a you know what look by way of reply.

"Actually I promised Peter I'd be the one to check in there," Nathan said. "One of his teachers - we need to talk about guy stuff. You know how it is, Ma."

"Mmm, I suppose," Angela said. She gave a soft sigh and reached over to place her hand over Peter's. "I'm sorry your father couldn't join us."

Out of respect for the grief he knew Angela still had, Peter refrained from pointing out that even if Pop had been there, Peter would still have preferred Nathan taking care of things. Instead he said, "I'm glad you're here. Both of you."

Angela placed a kiss on Peter's cheek, then sat back in her chair. "Well, you boys have fun. Nathan, I'll expect a full report on your brother's studies. Being away from home is no excuse for poor grades."

"Yes, Ma," Peter said, dutifully. The eyeroll was mostly hidden by his bangs. Mostly.

"You going to be gone all day, Ma?" Nathan asked. In addition to flight, Nathan had the superhuman ability to make the question sound completely casual.

"Just to visit the office hours," Angela said. She made a polite face of distaste. "I don't care for the weather. I don't think I'll stay out for very long."

"We can have dinner here," Peter immediately said. "It'll be great. I'd love spending time with both of you without all the distractions of the crowds and everything going on this weekend."

Nathan quietly cleared ihs throat as a way of warning his little brother not to oversell it. "We'll have our phones on us if you need to keep in touch, Ma."

"I'm sure everything will be fine," Angela said.

Once again, Nathan and Peter shared a worried look.
