Of course Sam was going to head straight for the library after class. Finals were sneaking up on him, and the library was bound to be warm, unlike many other places around the city. He was so lost in thoughts of papers and what research he still needed to do that he started heading up the steps without even looking around.

"Hey handsome," Peter said. He thought about doing a wolf whistle but knew Sam was too likely not to realize it was being aimed at him.

Sam definitely wouldn't have expected to be whistled at, but the sound of Peter's voice always got his attention. "Peter?" he said, stopping in his tracks. "What are you doing here?"

Peter held up the paper bag he'd been keeping next to him. "Thought you might like a hot lunch."

"Seriously?" Sam asked, breaking into a grin. "You didn't have to do that. Am I keeping you from work?"

"I'm off," Peter said. He motioned for Sam to sit beside him. "Saw an opening and took it. Figured my boyfriend might like a surprise. Though - " Peter indicated the libraries around them " - if you'd rather be with the books..."

"You know I'll always choose you over books." Which made Peter very special indeed. Sam sat down next to him, allowing himself to get close. "I'm really glad you're here. I forgot about lunch."

"You can't read books that remind you to get food?" Peter asked, affectionately teasing. He pulled the cardboard soup containers out of the bag. "Clam chowder? Boston, not Manhattan."

"I would have remembered to eat. Sometime around the point of starvation," Sam teased. "Clam chowder sounds really good right now. Didn't the groundhog not see his shadow? I thought it was supposed to be spring already."

"Tomorrow's April Fool's," Peter pointed out. He unpacked hot coffee as well. "Maybe the weather's getting into the spirit of it."

"Yeah, well, the weather can bite me and go back to being warm," Sam said, grinning at the sight of the coffee. "Oh, you really do love me, don't you?"

Peter pretended to be shocked. "You doubt me? After I went all the way up to Boston to get you soup?"

Sam would have kept teasing if it wasn't for that last part. "Wait, what? Tell me you're kidding."

Peter wasn't kidding. "It's really good soup."

"Peter, that's insane," Sam said. "You don't need to cross state lines to bring me lunch."

"Need to? No," Peter admitted. "But want to, as a surprise for my smart and sexy boyfriend? Oh yeah."
